what kind of camera?
Now that I can print on the network, how can I see the other computers on there?
good to know, thanks
Great post...that solved my problem...
I not only rebooted the entire network but I reloaded the HP Printer Driver Suite before doing so.
After shutting every machine in the network down and bringing the system up modem first, then router, etc. I then tried to load the printer on the Vista machine. It still says ACCESS DENIED - I can see the printer, I even connected the printer directly to the Vista machine, downloaded the Vista drivers and got it working. But when I took it back off and tried it thru the network, I got the same Message after choosing the printer - Access Denied.
Help??
Good question, I did have AVG running. I erased it from the computer and I'm going to load up Avast! as I use it on several other machines on the net.
However, it didn't solve my problem. Plus, as a troubleshooting tool, I tried another XP notebook that I didn't have a printer set up on - I also could not get the printer setup on that notebook - I was getting the message "incorrect printer driver loaded onto the printer you are trying to access", so I loaded the newest HP driver on the network printer machine and it completely fixed everything up. I now went back to my notebook (XP) and tried again and the printer loaded right up.
I then went back to the Vista machine and tried again. You won't believe it but now the Vista machine can't see the printer. Saw it perfectly before. So I check Network Places and it can see every machine on the network perfectly EXCEPT the one with the printer. Do you ever feel as if the computer gods are just playing with us?/%^&*
I've done everything I can think of to get it to see that machine - it's got the first IP in the router pool...I could access files from it on the Vista machine until I changed the printer driver...I'm baffled!!
My next course of action is to take down the router and reboot everything...that ought to clean things up a bit anyway...
Sounds like we've got the same problem...OK, everybody's welcome...maybe we can solve this problem...
thanks!!
Sounds like a lot of dirty machines out there...
I can see the network printer (it's on an XP machine), even to its attributes but when I try to sign it in, I get a box that says Access Denied. I'm guessing it's a driver problem (i.e., where would the Vista machine get its driver from a printer that doesn't know about Vista), not permissions, but this is my first Vista machine. I'm trying to follow these instructions but don't know how to find out what the path is (7) to the printer is:
1.) Verify that File and print sharing is turned on and properly configured
on the XP machine.
2.) Open the the shared location of the printer (Shared Printers folder) on Win Xp from your Vista machine
3.) On the Vista machine launch the "Add a Printer" wizard
4.) Choose "Add a local printer"
5.) Select "Create a new port" radio button and choose "Local Port" from the
drop down menu
6.) Press Next
7.) In the "Enter Port Name:" box enter the shared folder path from 'Step 2'. (e.g. \\WinXP\PrinterSharedFolder)
8.) Select the Printer driver from the list provided or use the "Have Disk"
button to install the correct Vista driver if it is not in the built-in list.
It is critical that the driver you use is Vista compatible.
9.) Press next
10.) Give the printer a distinct name and choose whether to set as the
default.
11.) …
Thanks, man, that did it. Amazing after all these years not thinking of that! Well, that's why we have a forum, no?
You might find this amusing...when I hooked everything back up, this box has those old keyboard and mouse connectors and I got them backwards (basically can't see well enough to see the markings)...so it appeared as if I hadn't fixed anything...took me a few to troubleshoot that and get it up again...
Please help, guys?
I don't use this Win2KPro machine often and this morning it was frozen. Cursor wouldn't even move. I rebooted and it now is acting strange, sometimes I just hear the initial disk checking noises and then nothing...black screen - the machine hasn't even accessed the monitor, yellow light blinking on the monitor. I can keep restarting (can't use the restart button, must switch power off and retart that way) and sometimes the screen will come on with the DOS initialization routine and with the familiar beep. When it goes to the "Starting Windows" DOS screen, it freezes.
Won't start with the CD or start in safe mode either. I CAN get to the setup page.
that was the problem - thanks a million!
Please help, I've got a new Vista machine and it's connected to my router but I can't talk to the internet. It was working yesterday.
Many thanks,
Recorder.exe is a Linksys file that is called when motion detection starts recording images. Looks OK to me.
Appears the fix worked - I really appreciate the look.

Hi guys,
I had the ie7 redirect issue and first ran AVG in safe mode. Then ran Fixwareout after seeing the issue explained on a previous thread. Then setup SpyWareBlaster and the issue seems to be resolved. Thanks for getting me this far.
Here's my hijackthis log: I would appreciate a looksee.

Well, guys, I'm suitably :icon_redface:
But at least I found the problem and solved it. I did not think I had any security running on the computers - those new boxes that I added, I refused the Norton's. But when I tried everything that has been suggested, I still did not have success.
So I started over on the list. I got me a good Norton's removal tool and started surgery. Sure enough...Norton's was the culprit. It was still hiding there, pouncing and not notifying me.
Such an easy fix. Such a nightmare to find it.
Many thanks. What a relief. I knew it was something simple!
You guys are great!

Took me a while to get back on this thread - travel
Great suggestions N - I've got them all covered I believe EXCEPT the multiple dhcp servers.
The wired router is set up for dhcp and the wireless router plugged into it also set for dhcp.
I originally put the wired router in because I need to set static IP for a port to my cameras. So, I'm going to try setting static up until I get to the wireless router where dhcp will function.
One note, I did all this because it appears impossible to run static IPs and dhcp simlutaneously on the same router. I had cameras running static but it could not deal with computers while dhcp was up. I would run all static except my kids have wireless notebooks.
Anyway, thanks for the suggestions - in the wee hours of the night, I'll be grateful for having you look over my shoulder - I'll get back!

Hello all,
Network setup:
1 commercial rr connection on a home network - I'm experimenting.
This network was up and running for over 1 year - all computers had full communication with each other.
I changed out two computers for new dual core Intel machines with HPs XP media center edition, which my research indicates is XP Pro.
That's when computers started to be not available. I've seen others with this same complaint, so I want to start a thread which can explore why this is happening and how we can fix the issue - the whole permissions topic is very difficult to track down.
I've got a BEFSR81 Linksys router connected to the cable router (not a cable modem - static IP) and 7 computers and 6 cameras connected to a Linksys WRT54G with a workgroup switch hanging off it. The wireless router is connected to the wired router and I have only my work computer (which runs a VPN) hooked to that. All wired and wireless computers and cameras are connected to the 54G or the workgroup switch.
It WAS working very well. All equipment can still access the internet. The main issue is the shared printer which nobody can use but the computer it's directly connected to. I've gotten over the shared files thing by just using email to send files machine to machine - stupid but effective. @#$%^&
I've gone through everything many times - my opinion is …
Thanks zeroth, that did it for me and I've been trying for days to fix this problem
