Delete the account and add it again. macgurl70 is right, gmail is IMAP. Why would you want 75,000 emails sitting in one account and you say that you have 15 other accounts! I am wondering how large your mail folder is in your local library. You are doing this on a MacBook Pro! If you are getting that many mails, get a server. You could have as may accounts as you want, and security and backup would be rather straight forward task.

I would love to know how you measured the voltage at the Store, let alone at home? Anyways, if you think that this might be the problem, Get a UPS unit. You do not have to spend a fortune on one and most units will insure that you get the right amount of power to drive your unit.

You want to see if you can get to your internal drive. Get another mac. Connect both together via firewire. Boot your G5 and hold down the T key while it is booting. It will show up on the other mac as an external drive. Then you should be able to extract any info from the drive. Should it not show up on the other mac....its fried.
I would like to know by what you mean by "one month old". You really have to go back several years to find a Mac that shipped with 512M and on top of that, a Power Mac? Whatever model you have is defiantly not a month old. You may of bought it a month ago, but certainly not from Apple.

I need to clarify a few things here. Is this a POP account or an IMAP account. Now, you talk about this dot, is it before the @ or after. The Only way I could see this happen is that when the "other" user set up the account, probably IMAP, is he did it with the "no dot" and put in an associated path with your account. A POP account is usually an account given to you by your provider and is rather static by nature.
Your account is absolutely exclusive to you and the only way mail can be directed to your account is if it is sent there, period. Whomever the Provider (domain mane after the @ sign) is responsible. Should this happen on my site, I would rectify the problem as this could turn out to be a very nasty "can of worms". Blacklisting comes to mind for one.

Do you use any third party app to set your resolutions? It sounds that some app is attempting to override the settings for your screen or you have chosen an improper ratio for your screen. Have you tried to switch your Resolutions via the system preference. Stick with what apple offers in the System preferences--> Monitors .

I don't want to put words into your mouth, but: "Now, it is basically like a DOS shell". Your words, not mine.

The unix shell that your system comes up with is a bash shell and all unix commands can be executed from the prompt. You can even switch to any unix shell.

Thats funny, I read about it this week and I don't make a living writing articles, which I would investigate
to make sure that what I state is true!

You are allover the place with this problem. I take it that you were a window user for a long time and then switched to mac. Number one, and this one is important, stop thing windows when dealing with a mac. If any one thing stands out dealing with someone from the windows world, is when something goes wrong, its a virus/worm/Trojan horse. Stop it now! Lets apply some simple troubleshooting techniques to this problem. Does this occur with other programs beside AIM. Try iChat and see if you get the same results. You get the same results, so the next step it to try it on a different account. Create a new account and see if you get the same results. Important: Logout off other account. Try these steps and see if your problem follows your troubleshooting. Either way post and we will react to your results. Defragging a drive in unix is a wast of time if you have more that 10% free. Some argue that it is simply a waste of time and I agree. Sorry, I did not want to confuse you, the Mac Os operates in a Unix environment.

DOS is not a shell. DOS is an OS. Shells are CLIs (command line interpreters) to parse code in unix. Please, if you wish to talk about other OSs, leave the others behind. The logic of DOS and the Logic of Unix are completely different.

Root is not a file, but access level for a user. Root is sometimes referred to as superuser. It allows any and all access to your system. You can easily destroy your OS so be very very careful because in Unix, there is no back button.

I did a quick link and found it one ebay. Item #330443832387. It is listing at $102.50. Wether you go after this one or not , please keep in mind that you must make sure that it is "Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard Retail Universal Install DVD".

I am not sure what you are trying to accomplish, but if you hold the command and s key during startup, you will be brought to the unix layer of the system. Make not mistake that you are in dangerous waters at this level. You should not go here unless you have a strong understanding of Unix as you can completely destroy your Mac OS software.
It sound like you attempted to upgrade and it failed. It does happen, for many reasons. Now, do you have 10.3 (panther) or were you updating to 10.6.3 (Snow leopard). Big difference. Lets go with SL. Insert your original disk that came with your system and reinstall your system. Go to the apple site and download the your updates. SN is now up to 10.6.4 so what I would recommend is get the combo "Mac OS X v10.6.4 Update (Combo)" file as it is a complete system update.

Microsoft dropped support for IE on the mac platform I believe in 2004. That would be back in the days of Panther. You state that you are using a apple pro mouse (magic mouse?), so your mac should be rather new. The only way you are going to get IE to work is to Use bootcamp and install windows or use Parallels or Vmware packages.
The mouse is fully configurable (OS 10.6.2) in system preferences>hardware>mouse. I am not sure what you mean by "apple Pro mouse". Do you mean "magic mouse" ie wireless, or do you mean standard mouse ie USB.
Should it be a standard mouse, I would like to know if it has always acted in this manor or is is something recent. I have found that one of the reasons that a mouse misbehaves is the surface that it is on. It should not be a thick piece of glass as it can refract the light or a red surface as it would absorb on not reflect the light. On the wireless side, try replacing the batteries. Also, because it is a bluetooth device, re-pair it (re-sync it).

You can mount an ISO image in MAC by double clicking the ISO image or issuing the following command:
hdiutil mount image.iso

The above command is to be issued at the command prompt in a terminal window. It is Unix. Know your audience, this is a newbie on Mac!

Could you please post a little more detail. What model of laptop. The 2004 ibook was a g4 model shipped with only 256MB of ram. It did come with 10.3 (Panther) installed. I think you meant 10.3 not 10.0.3.
Will the system start up from the install disk? What error is it displaying when you try to install. Please post and we will take it from there.

An OSX server truly kicks butt! The server along with the OS supply all the necessary solution that you might need, but this is on a business level and can run into the tens of thousands of dollars.
I think you want to know if you can run small scale on your desktop. Most of what you need is already on your system and in most cases, anything you need can be found free with a bit of looking and implementing X11, which is provided on you install disk. Yes, it too will kick butt on a smaller scale too!

G5=Intel=Leopard
You may have to increase your Ram. You don't specify how much you have.

I don't know if you have found a solution to you receiving mails. Great if you have, but please post. Still not having any luck post the details from the connection doctor. This will tell you where the problem is and what to do to solve it.

The actual OS is Unix. OSX is an extension of unix and is in itself an application running in Unix. That said, I do not think it advisable to partition the drive as you said in your first request because it is not unix, It is a program running in unix. It is not meant to be treated as Unix and I do not see any advantage of the partition. Your are using the same drive so it does not speed up anything and the files that you are referring to are invisible to the general user and best left that way. Partition the drive as many ways you want and use it for your music, movies, or whatever, but leave the unix files on the boot partition!

The control that you are looking for is not in parental controls. It is in the account setup. The restrictions you are looking for are set in a regular account, which is the default. The system preference are "opened" by allowing the account to have administrator status.

You are going to have to get some more information. Can you send mail from your application. Is there any symbols after your mail account of your message viewer. Please run the connection doctor (under window) and see if if it connects with your ISP. Do you have more than one account set up? Is is a POP or an IMAP account.
Have no fear, mail troubleshooting can get quite nasty as there are many different settings involved. One step at a time.

Spotlight works great for quick searches, but I don't think that spotlight is what you are looking for. Try search (apple f). This utility will allow you to create any search criteria and either save it to your finder window or place it in a folder so your finder window does not get too cluttered.

Danarchy commented: I agree about Spotlight not being a very thorough finder. +6

Wow, this goes back in time. First things first. Rebuild your desktop. If finder seems out of whack or you are finding the the icons are not displaying properly are sure signs of this problem. It can get severe enough to mimic your problems.
First reboot your system holding down the shift key (extensions off).
As soon as you see the OS logo hold down the option and apple keys together. The system will ask you if you want to rebuild the desktop. Let the desktop rebuild itself and reboot the system. This procedure should be done on a monthly basis to keep your system running at its best.
I hope that this clears up your problem, if not post and we will deal with the results.

Why!!!!

It is now 2009 and no Viruses yet. Clamx is a free software, so do not expect it to be a "one push" and it takes out the garbage to!
You want one just to make sure, try virusbarrierx5. Not intrusive and does not seem to put a drain on the system.
