Try asking for help over in the *nix Hardware Configuration forum where I am sure there will be plenty of folk happy to help.

Oh, and sorry to rub the rules in yet again, but I edited out the email address from your original posting as we ask that members keep the help offered here on DaniWeb so that others may benefit from it in the future. In mitigation, I thought I had plugged it in, but did not think to check. Knowing too much can be as big a problem in the twit stakes as knowing too little, as it becomes ever easier to overlook the simple explanations.

I guess I should 'fess up to those times when I have been a tech-twit as well:

like when it took me far too long to realise that the reason my mobile phone wasn't charging was becuase I hadn't plugged the charger in to the mains - certainly not before I had gone and bought a new battery thinking that it had expired...

My father-in-law, bless, had a problem whcih I thought might be down to malware. However, he insisted that he had a security suite installed and scanned his computer every week.

I went round to take a look, and the first thing I wanted to do was a full security scan. At which point I discovered that the last set of definition/signature updates was a couple of years old. Apparently he didn't bother to re-subscribe after year one, thinking that he had the application and that was good enough.

Not funny, at all, but oh so common a mistake it seems...

I don't have any grandparents that are still alive, am much too old for that. However, my mother is in her late seventies and not very technically minded. She takes an interest though, mainly because she is proud of her son for writing books about it. Shame she didn't read any of them though, then she may not have had to ask 'do I need to turn the computer on to receive email?'

Yes, the memory usage has improved a lot and it's now quicker to load and render pages than before.

When I put it through the default set of tests for standards compliance, memory usage and JavaScript performance, FF2RC1 beat MSIE7RC1 hands down on all counts (this for a PC Pro news analysis piece.)

The right forum could be Network Configuration or C and C++ but it all depends exactly what it is you want to know.

No offense, but I've always thought that Daniweb's current rendition of code in code tags is about as readable as untagged code. I hate it. I prefer pretty much every other attempt I've seen.

This is one area I really don't feel qualified to talk about, as I'm no code junkie and it all looks like Chinese to me :)

Without wishing to re-open old wounds for either you or Dani, maybe it would be useful to list (again, here, in this thread) exactly what you dislike about the current code-tagging, what you would like to see added, and why.

If we can get some reasoned debate going about it all, then surely as adults we can all come up with an acceptable solution?

Davey, how would you like it if suddenly one or more post of yours suddenly lacked bulleted/numbered lists? When your carefully laid out text suddenly looked like less than what you posted? Would you not say to yourself -- "Hey, that's not what I wrote!?!"
