Around the time I was born, my parents had a Rottweiler, but she died young due to cancer

I didn't know dogs can get cancer!

Rottweilers are awesome dogs too, they are super smart, gentle, don't shed much (short hair), but they have lots of energy, so you have to be ready for that (i.e., it's not a living-room potato). It's like a Labrador (lots of energy and short hair), but better, because Labs are complete idiots in comparison.

I thought rottweilers are good dogs, but not as good as labs because of their intelligence and behavior... a lot of people say rotts are horrible dogs because they are considered "dumb" by many and labs are considered better in all aspects. But for me, it doesn't matter.... all dogs are just as easy to train... except for my neighbors chihuahua... those dogs have the worst attitudes....

<M/> 170 Why so serious? Featured Poster

If you considering a dog that is like a lab, why not get a Newfoundland? those are nice dogs that are very loving and sweet (good with kids). or how about a border collie, they shed a little bit but are extremely smart and beautiful dogs.

<M/> 170 Why so serious? Featured Poster

we only have 14 cats and three dogs, bit short on dogs, need another one, all were spca rescue animals

Only 14 cats and 3 dogs.... Wow, that must be hard to care of. And you are still looking for more dogs!

I am guessing they all live outside... boy, you sound like you visit your petstore a lot for their foods and equipment...

@Jim, if you were wondering what one of my dogs looks like (sleeping), here you go (the havenese, he has gotten a haircut this morning by a groomer):

You have to be careful when getting a rescue animal.

Rescue animals are kind of risky to get. One of our current pets is a tabby cat. She has developed a really bad attitude with men (and not with women) because of the last owner oftenly neglecting her. But hey, she is a really smart cat that can even steal food out of drawers, open doors (don't ask), and open the refrigerator and steal food... which is why she lives outside.

We've been lucky (mostly) with our dogs. Our first was an Irish Setter that wandered into our livingroom (door was open while the paint dried) in 1981.

Ah, those dogs are awesome. Those would be a dog I would get but unfortanetly, when you have my mom... your dog has to be a toy breed... which is why we own a havenese (fully grown, weighs 5 pounds, is all hair) and a maltese (fully grown, weighs 6.8 pounds, is all hair)... :)

<M/> 170 Why so serious? Featured Poster

I lol'ed at the Meth lab. Anyways... if you were to get a dog, i'd prefer you get a dog that does not shed that much, is easy to train, is adorable looking, etc.

Think of programming like the martial arts. You can probably learn the basics quickly, but it's not very useful at that level. To reach and maintain a level where it is useful, you have to put in a lot of effort. And anyone who tells you it's easy is trying to sell you something. ;)

EXACTLY! That simplifies the "essay" i wrote :D

**For question 1: my first question is what is the difference between java and JavaScript and where each one is used.
**
The JavaScript programming language, developed by Netscape, Inc., is not part of the Java platform.
JavaScript, does not create applets or stand-alone applications. In its most common form today, JavaScript resides inside HTML documents, and can provide levels of interactivity to web pages that are not achievable with simple HTML.
Some key differences are: Java is an OOP programming language while Java Script is an OOP scripting language. Java creates applications that run in a virtual machine or browser while JavaScript code is run on a browser only. Java code needs to be compiled while JavaScript code are all in text. They require different plug-ins.

For question 2: what is the difference between C and C++ and which one is better to learn for small programs and games
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3027177/what-are-the-differences-between-c-and-c (i liked his example that was provided :D). Here is another source: http://www.cprogramming.com/tutorial/c-vs-c++.html
When building games, I believe C++ is more commonly used (don't take my word for it, i am not a game developer).

Question 3: how long would it take me to learn all these 4 if by my self and I'm I too old to start now ?
Age plays a key role in programming. For example, the younger you are, the quicker you can learn things but when you are older, programming becomes harder …

<M/> 170 Why so serious? Featured Poster

Easier said than done. How do you plan to get through his army in order to arrest him??

It could be easier said as it is done... the problem is that the US try to act "diplomatic" and supposedly "smart"... For example, didn't they say they find osama and his compound about 9 years prior of killing him... they could have killed him them.

<M/> 170 Why so serious? Featured Poster

You mean you (US) make it your business, even if it's none of your business. There's a difference.

Yep, that's what i meant.

<M/> 170 Why so serious? Featured Poster

What makes you think it is US responsibility to resolve their problems?

Isn't the US the world's biggest super power (aside from China)... we pretty much are responsible for what happens in the world because we always happened to get involved... besides, Syria can't take of themselves.

Hell, we can't even resolve our own problems.

Yeah... blame the idiots that call themselves "politicians"...

<M/> 170 Why so serious? Featured Poster

I personally think that Syria can not be left alone. The rotten idiot they call the president of syria is just killing them... US should get involved, maybe just kill him? If US does not get involved, things are going to get ugly.

hello mr. vegasat buy some jewelry when she say yes

It is a good part of what you need to do. The jewelry is a good way to take control of the woman's mind. Also take her to her favorite place(s).

Be sure to have your wallet loaded at all times ;)

No... Samsung is not a low profile company, i don't think he was referring to Samsung though...

<M/> 170 Why so serious? Featured Poster

what he meant to say was that earlier, you have posted that you have recieved 2-3 high profile company rejections. He is assuming that if you "try out" for Google (or any high profile company, like those in the link i provided), your going to face another rejection. So he recommends you try going with a low profile company, maybe one in your local area?

I found this: http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/xml/library/x-youtubeapi/

I am not sure if it will help.

Have you read YouTube's API's? Maybe that'll trigger some clues

Samsung could be a great place to work, but i am not too familiar with it...

Here read this: http://www.businessinsider.com/the-worlds-highest-paid-software-engineers-work-for-these-25-companies-2013-4?op=1

Maybe this can help if your looking it at a salary perspective?

Google is always a great place for a software developer but Google isn't the only place in becomming a great software developer. There are many big companies out there that pay higher but lets be honest here, everyone knows google... even the people in China who use Baidu know Google very well.

Anyways... Working for Google will be great, espicially if you have finished your studies.

HTML isn't that hard to learn.

No language is hard to learn, it just takes time and practice.

<M/> 170 Why so serious? Featured Poster

almostbob brings up a great point on why you should know css. try not to focus on wysiwyg, it tends to go against you on things such as browser compatibility. for example, your site looks perfect on Google Chrome but it looks like a mess on safari and likes defective on explorer.

Learn to code, you will be glad you did :)

At first coding will seem like a scary thing, but later on you will discover you have made a good choice (in fact you can even "educate" colleagues).

@almostbob, hmmmm, i seemed to have missed that announcement.

<M/> 170 Why so serious? Featured Poster

To be a great web designer, you should have a background in web development too. It would be disappointing of someone to refuse a job paying a few thousand dollars for 1 - 2 days of work just because they don't know CSS.

I would say stick to your current job and practice your web design/development skills, try your best to ignore people's "advise" (your colleagues) because they normally try to scare so you don't compete with them (i do that, so i know how it works ;)). Once you are ready to share your practices for income, "ditch" your old job and start doing your web design and development business.

JorgeM brings a good example of how to learn your development. I may add that if you want to create templates, you can try putting photoshop before html/html5... i don't know, maybe that will help you learn a bit better.

@JorgeM, i didn't even notice you... due to your new avatar ;) btw, when did you become a mod? I must have missed a lot in my 2 month absense...

@Jim, Wow... your extremely busy... I won't be surprised if you work for Google, Oracle, Facebook, or someother big company as a leading developer/CTO/etc... you make me look like baby with a computer... -_-

<M/> 170 Why so serious? Featured Poster

I recommend you learn both but I advise you to be a guru in java atleast because their are more jobs that require java than python...

I learned 7 programming languages back in my university days and it was a great experience.

@Jim, Wow... it takes me like a year (to a point where i am pretty good) to learn 1 language... -_-, what languages did you study?

<M/> 170 Why so serious? Featured Poster

Everyone is right about the saying, "Practice makes perfect" but a lot of people don't realize is that you got to have a pretty well developed brain (doing math helps, reading helps, practice your coding and attempting it in different ways help) in order to write good code, as if you are writing an english essay. To me, a good trick is to keep challenging yourself, if you are not challenged, you will not grow...

I personally write code as if i were writing an essay but every once in a while, i need to make references...
