Is there a way within Java to adjust the screen size? When I wrote a program in C++, I used the following code to do it, but I can't find anywhere (either Sun's API's, or on this site) how to do it.

I can't get it to work. I think the link you sent is for gui type applications written in Java. My application is not a gui one though. I tried to add the code right after my comments at the beginning of the program and right after my declaration of most of my variables, but it would not compile clean no matter where I put it.
