Comic-Con Round-Up, Street Fighter Edition.

Street-Fighter Mania:
Street Fighter has been the center of much speculation lately. There are rumors of two new titles in the versus-series, as well as character additions to the already announced, Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

It was only a few years ago that there was a lull in Capcom's desire to create new Street Fighter titles. Of course, everything changed with the success of Street Fighter 4 and the HD remix of Super Street Fighter II for the PlayStation Network, and Xbox Live Arcade. Since SFIV, we have been treated to a “Super” upgrade, and Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, a title that barely made it stateside due to licensing issues.

Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Following the risky T.v.C., Capcom announced Marvel vs. Capcom 3, following the re-release of M.v.C. 2 on PSN and XBL. Like SFIV and T.v.C., this is a game that is rendered in 3D, but viewed from a 2D perspective. Amazingly, the game is coming out 10 years after its predecessor. At this years Comic-Con in San Diego, Capcom has announced six new characters. From Capcom's team, they've added Viewtiful Joe, Amaterasu, the main character from Okami, Trish from Devil May Cry, and the venerable Chun-Li. On Marvel's side, Capcom announced Dr. Doom, Super Skrull, Dormammu, and the mighty Thor! Viewtiful Joe isn't official just yet, but he is featured alongside Dormammu in a M.v.C. 3 t-shirt made especially for Comic-Con. Both are in silhouette, but Dormammu was spotted in the game's trailer at E3.

Namco vs. Capcom / Capcom vs. Namco: A decade ago, Capcom and rival developer SNK, developed a series of games pitting their characters against each other. Each company developed their own games, fighting related and otherwise, to the delight of fans around the world.

According to Game Informer magazine, Capcom will try to attempt the same thing with Namco, producers of Tekken and Soul Calibur. It's purported that Capcom will build a game using SFIV's engine, and Namco will work off of Tekken 6's tech.

The two companies developed a Japanese-only RPG in 2005 for the PlayStation 2, but it failed to raise much interest among gamers. GI claims that the new games will be revealed during Comic-Con, so we won't have to wait long for confirmation. Rumor's have the nasty habit of being unreliable, but this one has a lot of fans buzzing with excitement, so perhaps it's worth considering if Capcom/Namco haven't struck a deal by now.

Super Street Fighter IV: Last but not least, there may be new additions to the arcade version of SSFIV. A recent location test in Japan, twitterer Yoshizo715 snapped a shot of what appears to be two empty character slots. There is lots of speculation regarding who might fill said slots, or if the photo is genuine. As usual, time will tell!

Stay tune for more Comic-Con coverage this evening! There is lots of news from the show floor that will appeal to gamers and comic-lovers alike.

Hells yeah! I can not wait for Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

The Street Fighter Rumors are confirmed to be real.

At the very end of this video, 2 new character slots are revealed on the character select screen:

(Tekken vs Street Fighter/Namco Vs Capcom was proven to be a hoax several weeks ago.)

This site could be the first to expose this?

Thanks for the link to the Alex & Rolento story at Original-Gamer, I'll use them (and you) as my source when I cover the SF panel this afternoon.

In regards to the NvC/CvN rumors...

The GameFaqs forum seems convinced, but with the SSFIV panel happening in two hours (12 pst), I am going to wait 'til announcements are made or rumors debunked. I realize the credibility of the source was damaged due to prior statements of his, but I don't see concrete evidence of the rumor being disproved at the thread you linked to. If I missed anything, set me straight, please! As far as I can tell, it's a still a rumor, nothing more or less.

The Darkstalkers rumor came about roughly the same time as the CvN/NvC rumor. Still waiting for confirmation. Conic-Con starts panel in 10 minutes!

Sorry Luuma, there will be not be a new Darkstalkers game, yet. We will get individual versions of Street Fighter vs Tekken from Capcom and Namco and an Online Street Fighter 3: Third Strike. Stay tuned for my coverage coming in a few minutes. Thanks for the tips, but I have to make sure I have real sources before I actually confirm or debunk rumors. They didn't actually confirm Alex or Rolando either, so we have to wait until TGS in September for any official announcements.
