It's possible I'm a rather unusual member here, as I haven't actually worked in the I.T. field itself, but I am a very technically oriented musician / producer / recording & mastering engineer, I use computers & software for my recording & processing. My own music incorporates a lot of electronic effects (mainly for the guitars), plus both analog & digital synthesizers. My day job is co-ordinating repairs for the service department of a pro audio & musical wireless company.
I'm currently making the leap from a sort of advanced user of computers (in some ways) to being able to rebuild & repair them, necessity being the motivating factor! I've worked with both P.C. & MAC, but prefer MACs very highly for the work that I do.
