Quick practical checklist for and : if the TravelMate powers but shows no image on either the built-in screen or an external monitor, try the following in order. These steps go from simple to more involved so you can stop once the fault is found.

Remove all power (battery + AC), hold the power button 20–30 seconds, then boot from AC only. Try the laptop display-toggle key (the Fn + display-key combo) while a known-good external monitor is connected. Swap the VGA/monitor cable or try a different external screen to rule out the cable. Inspect the LCD for a very faint image by shining a bright light on it—if you can see the desktop faintly, suspect the backlight/inverter. Reseat memory modules: remove, clean contacts lightly, and test one stick at a time in each slot. With RAM removed you should normally get a POST/beep code; note any beeps or LED blink patterns and post them. Disconnect nonessential drives (HDD/optical) and try to POST again. Check the AC adapter and DC jack for correct voltage or try a spare adapter.

If none of the above yields an image, the failure is likely at a deeper hardware level and will need parts or shop diagnosis; weigh repair cost versus replacement for an older machine. If you can post beep patterns, LED behavior, fan action, or a photo showing a faint image, we can narrow it down further. And , if you can share what finally fixed it, that will help others.

have you had any luck, mine went down as well same problem acer 290

Yep! A very long story but it turned out to be the motherboad, shame!
