I'm very interested in the IT field, primarily in Networking. I have a job right now as a Bench Tech/Phone support type of thing at a local consulting firm. I'm pursuing an AS degree in Computer Science right now because my adviser said it would be more transferable into a 4 year school, regardless of whether I do IT or CS.
My problem is that a lot of the schools that I can afford do not have IT degrees. There are quite a few with BS in CIS/CS but only 1 with IT and it happens to be 5x as much. I'm trying to avoid taking out a $50,000 loan at pretty much all costs. How much of a difference will it make if I get a BS in CS as opposed to IT while attempting to go into the networking field? By the time I have to make this decision final I'll have 3 years of experience and an AS in CS. How much would getting a BS in CS/CIS hurt me and which one if either would be the best choice.
