Why is my site's Google PageRank now 0? It had been at PR7 for over a year, but since the last update it's been at PR0 and my traffic has dropped by a factor of 10. Please help me figure this out. Thanks.

A sudden drop from PR7 to PR0 and a 10x traffic fall can mean either a measurement artifact or a real ranking problem. Public "rank" numbers are only snapshots; the authoritative signals are Search Console and your analytics data. Start by confirming whether impressions, clicks and indexed pages actually fell (use Google Search Console and your analytics account) so you know if this is a reporting issue or a real loss (Search Console).

Quick diagnostic checklist to run now:

  • Check Search Console for manual actions or security notices and use the URL Inspection/Coverage reports to confirm important pages are indexed. If a manual action appears, follow the remediation steps and request review ().
  • Compare the exact date/time of the traffic drop in Analytics to known Google algorithm events to see if there is a timing correlation (Google algorithm change history).
  • Verify no unintended technical changes: robots.txt, meta noindex, canonical tags, redirects, server 5xx/4xx spikes, or large-scale content deletions.
  • Audit backlink changes if the loss looks link-related; sudden loss or toxic links can coincide with ranking drops.

If a manual penalty exists, fix and submit a reconsideration. If it’s algorithmic, focus on quality: remove/merge thin pages, fix duplicated content, improve authoritativeness and user experience, resubmit sitemaps, and monitor recovery in Search Console and Analytics. As earlier replies noted, correlate timing with external events and use Search Console/Analytics as the primary source of truth rather than a single public PR snapshot.

Perhaps that's because of the Panda update? Just a guess, though, because quite some sites have been hit by that update (including daniweb).

You can use google toolbar to check the page rank it's good tool to check the page rank for the website. And toolbar browser is the second option for the same.
