Our site is popular, PR4, >200,000 views a month, Alexa 411,000 that is improving by 50,000 a month. Our SEO is also very good.

We are just starting to see income, but we definitely need better monetization.

We have Google Adsense and Search, Banner Connect, a few text links and article with advertisers' links.

Can anybody recommend me sources/ideas for improving the monetization of our site? We want the site to be free.

Would love to hear some good sound advise.

Many Thanks,

Jen

P.S. We don't like affiliate programs. They don't work for us-Income from affiliates after long trial...................... 0.0$

For — practical monetization steps that build on what’s already been said (and on ’s point about contextual ads).

With solid, repeat traffic and good SEO, the highest-return moves are those that sell the site’s audience and attention directly rather than relying only on network CPMs. Start by creating a one‑page media kit that lists monthly pageviews, uniques, top pages, average time on site, audience geography/device split, newsletter/social reach (if any), and a simple breakdown of available inventory (leaderboard, in‑content, newsletter slot). Use that kit to offer 3–4 clear packages (site sponsor, category sponsor, sponsored post + social push, newsletter sponsorship) priced as flat monthly packages or guaranteed‑impression pilots so advertisers know the outcome.

Complement direct sales with a few productized offerings that don’t break the “free site” promise: small paid data packs (CSV or PDF historical stats), an ad‑free one‑time purchase or low monthly membership for advanced filters/exports, sponsored giveaways/contests, and simple merchandise. If affiliates didn’t work, native sponsored posts and direct lead generation (sell leads to local clubs, retailers, fantasy services) are often more effective because they’re bespoke and easier to track.

Optimize the current ad stack: A/B test placements and formats, measure viewability and RPM by placement, lazy-load below‑the‑fold ads to protect speed, and remove low‑performing clutter. Consider premium sports ad networks or direct header‑bidding later, but only after tracking baseline RPM and viewability. Track campaign KPIs (CTR, time on page, conversions) and use short pilot campaigns to build case studies for higher rates.

Practical first steps: assemble the media kit, pick five target advertisers, run two one‑month pilot sponsorships, and measure revenue per 1,000 engaged users plus any UX impact. Disclose sponsored content clearly and avoid overloading pages so organic traffic and SEO remain strong.

Hey,Friend,
Really,Your site is popular and good.

In my niche, contextual ads have worked the best, followed by text link ads. I’ve never been successful with affiliate marketing.
