i have Toshiba NB 205 netbook. It is pre installed with license windows xp.

The problem occurred when i tried to install windows 7 to the unit using pendrive.
After formating the main partition leaving the recovery partition, the laptop does not boot anymore.

I tried to use the recovery but still i cant go to recovery or even boot to my pendrive anymore.

Its just Black screen after the Toshiba logo, no HDD activity.

What could be the problem?
Please help.

Good call by — the netbook booting to a black screen after the Toshiba splash often traces back to low-level firmware or boot-handling issues. The following is a compact, practical checklist and safe procedures to apply that fix (or recover if you cannot apply it immediately).

First checks (do these before any OS reinstall): enter the BIOS/boot menu (common keys on Toshiba are F2/F12 or check the splash), note the firmware version/date and whether the hard drive appears in the device list, and verify the boot order. If the drive is missing, reseat or test the drive in another PC or with a USB adapter to rule out hardware failure. If the drive is present but not booting, try resetting BIOS to defaults and recheck the boot order.

Preparing and applying the firmware refresh: confirm the exact model/revision from the service sticker, download only the matching firmware from Toshiba, and follow the vendor instructions precisely. Important safety steps: run the update on AC power, do not interrupt the process, and double-check you have the correct file — the wrong firmware can permanently disable the unit. If you cannot run a vendor updater from Windows, look for a vendor-provided bootable flasher or ask support for recovery media.

If USB install still fails after firmware work: build the installer so it matches the netbook (32-bit vs 64-bit), format the USB for BIOS/MBR boot (many older netbooks require FAT32/MBR), or use an external optical drive. After gaining boot access, use the Windows repair environment to rebuild the bootloader (for example, bootrec /fixmbr and bootrec /rebuildbcd). If data recovery is needed, remove the drive and copy files from another machine or with a USB-SATA adapter. If firmware flashing fails or the unit remains dead, contact Toshiba support or a technician.
