why is sata hard disks have better data transfer over ide in spite of having less number of data lines than that of ide hard disk?

because SATA is serial and IDE (now called PATA) is Paralell.

SCSI was also faster than IDE. Dont know in comparison with SATA but most servers these days have all three

Sata II is 3gbs
