I have a problem with a new external hard drive and would appreciate some HELP!
Bought a maxtor hard drive which works well when connected, however, my system refuses to boot up if I leave it connected???

It sounds to me like your system is trying to boot from your external drive. If this is the case you either can just detach the external drive before shut down or go into your bios and change your boot order.
