As in my earlier threads I am trying to install a hitachi 5K250 laptop hdd into a Dell Inspirion 531S computer. All connections are SATA.There are 4 spaces to connect hardware on the motherboard. They are labeled SATA0,SATA1,SATA2,and SATA3.Sata0 and SATA1 are used for the hdd already installed(SATA0),and the cd/dvd drive (SATA1).I tried to install the laptop hdd as a slave. No jumper pins to set on either hdd.Is there something else I need to do to use the laptop hdd as a slave drive on my Dell?

Check out the bios, to see if the sata device is recognized. Could be quite a few things, but first look there and see if it appears in the standard bios.
