I have a compaq desktop pro workstation its windows xp 2000 professional and when i went to turn it on this morning it makes this clicking sound and just shows compaq and wont go on so i tried to boot it and it said that it failed and check cable. And then it goes to non system disk or disk error. But this happen yesturday and awhile ago and it started up

The clicking sound is your hdd trying to find the boot record. It usually means that your hdd bombed and is unrecoverable. sorry
