This is the same problem discussed int this thread, but it was labeled as solved so i dont think anyone is reading it anymore.

The problem now is that the computer will sometimes boot fine, othertimes it will hang on the Compaq start screen. If I unplug the keyboard then restart, the computer will boot up fine. I can then plug the keyboard in again, and it will work flawlessly. I can't understand why sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

OK read the other thread ...removing the "Compaq" keyboard program didn't permanently solve the problem.
That's not too surprising. In my experience some "compaq" computers will not work with "generic" keyboards..no matter what you do. This has to do with some of their "proprietary" management programs they install (eg. powermanagement ..etc).
Your only solution MIGHT be to get a compaq keyboard. :(
