I need help. Don't know a whole lot about computers.

My computer will not recognize an external usb hard drive.

It was formatted and recognized in another computer right away when it was pluged in. However in my computer it does not show in Disk Management or in my computer.
It starts up and you can hear the hard drive spin up but then it spins down. It was connected through a hub, the blu light will come on like it was going to connect then it just went out.....
Don't know what to do or try.
I am running XP with SP2

If it is a desktop hard drive (3.5") they need to be powered by an ac outlet also. Is this your case?

Make sure your usb hub is not disabled by the device manager.
Also consider upgrading your usb driver.
