Hey folks. After a recent system scan using Avast (fully updated) I got a message saying that this file could not be scanned because it is a 'decompression bomb':

C:\Program Files\Nero 7\Nero BackItUp\BackItUp_ImageTool\root.img\root.img

I tried deleting/moving the file (in Avast) but it would not allow me to do this and gave me an error message. I also tried doing this after an Avast scan in safe mode. Ive also scanned my system with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (fully updated) and this hasnt picked anything up.

Am I infected?? My system seems to be fine. Any help much appreciated thanks smile.gif

A decompression bomb is a file that unpacks to an enormous amount of data - thus "flooding" the unpacking engine. It's quite hard to detect such files reliably, so it's possible that it gives some false alarms ocassionally.

Since it is the Nero BackItUp program then it would be extremely large. It is compressed so it won't take up a lot of space. If you open it up then it would uncompress and be huge. Plus it may take a very long time to fully open.
It's nothing to worry about, you are just informed that avast! that it can't scan the file.
