got a virus in "msmx32" need help

so norton told me that msmx32 is effected, but its not possible to delet it, because windows is using it .. so what can i do??

Why a file is undeletable and what to do

The OS or a service has the file loaded (or it's hidden/locked by a restore/cache mechanism). The safest removal order is: prevent the file from starting at boot, stop any running process that holds it, then remove it from disk while System Restore / caching is disabled. If that is not possible from the running system, boot the machine from clean media (a rescue environment) and delete from there.
If using a command prompt to remove an item, first clear attributes and force deletion, for example:

attrib -s -h -r C:\path\to\file.ext
del /f /q C:\path\to\file.ext

Checks to make after removal

Scan again from a known-clean environment (bootable rescue media or a second machine) and run a rootkit-aware scanner. Look for unexpected startup entries and unknown drivers; remove only after backing up the registry.
If your AV repeatedly flags cached installers or CABs, clear all temporary and browser caches and rerun scans from the offline environment.

When to consider rebuilding

If core system files, multiple services, or the restore mechanism were compromised, imaging/reinstalling the OS is the only way to be certain. Before doing major changes, make an image backup so you can recover user data safely.

Final notes

Good troubleshooting by (identifying startup items) and (getting diagnostics) — add an offline scan and a disk image before flushing restore points or doing destructive edits. Change passwords after cleanup and keep software updated; on an end-of-life OS a full reinstall to a supported system is strongly recommended.

Download the (free) HijackThis utility:

Once downloaded, follow these instructions to install and run the program:

Create a folder outside of any Temp/Temporary folders for HJT and move it there now. A folder such such as C:\HijackThis or C:\Spyware Tools\HijackThis will do.

Run HijackThis, but do not have HJT fix anything yet; only have it scan your system! Once the scan is complete, the "Scan" button will turn into an option to "Save log...". Save the log in the folder you created for HiajckThis, open the log in Windows Notepad, and cut-n-paste the entire contents of the log here.

The log contents will tell us a lot about what "nasties" have crept into your system, and once we analyse the log we can tell you what to do from there.

thx

i downloaded the programm antivir and it told me that i got the Trojan Horses TR/Dldr.Agen.bq.1.1, .Agent.bc.12, /Agent.Em und /Start.Page.uz.DLL . It deleted some files and i havent any problems now, but today i scaned a second time and i still have some infected files ( FS978.CAB or FS980.CAB and so on) and the program cant't delet them.
should i do something about it or leave it??

(i have an old version of IE because generally i'm using Netcape, only sometimes if something doesn't work i try the IE, and nearly everytime i got a virus :rolleyes: )

Congratulations! Your log looks clean - good work!

Now that your PC is clean you need to follow these easy steps to keeping it this way:

Secure your Internet Explorer by going and following the instructions there.

Better yet, use an alternative browser! Download FireFox and give it a run. It is far more secure than Internet Explorer. Or, you can get Opera which in my opinion, is better still.

Use a firewall to help prevent your PC's control being usurped by undesireables. There is a link to a good, free firewall in my signature.

Install and keep updated, and
Run them both on a regular basis, following the manufacturer's recommendations.

Install an anti-virus. There are some good, free AV's available today. Make sure that it is updated regularly and have it scan your system often.

Check for Windows Updates. Microsoft regularly post updates for your systems safe running. Make sure to take advantage of this. Reboot when installed and return to make sure there are no others.

Clear your Temp folders.
Clear out your Temporary internet files and other temp files.
Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel >Internet Options.
Under the General tab click the Delete temporary internet files,
delete all Offline content as well. Clear out Cookies.

Also, go to Start > Find/search > Files or folders > in the named box, type: *.tmp and choose Edit > select all -> File > delete.

Empty/delete the entire contents of the C:\Windows\temp folder and C:\temp folder, if you have one. (Contents but not the folder itself.)

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\

In order to view these files you may have to select 'show hidden files/folders.' Instructions on how to here.

Empty the Recycle Bin.

For ME users.
After something like this it is a good idea to Flush the Restore Points and start fresh.
To flush the ME system Restore Points.

1. Click Start, Settings, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click the System icon. The System Properties dialog box appears.

NOTE: If the System icon is not visible, click "View all Control Panel options" to display it.

3. Click the Performance tab, and then click File System.
4. Click the Troubleshooting tab, and then check Disable System Restore.
5. Click OK. Click Yes, when you are prompted to restart Windows.

To enable System Restore again:

1. Click Start, go to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click System, and then click the Performance tab.
3. Click File System, and then click the Troubleshooting tab.
4. Uncheck Disable System Restore.
5. Click OK. Click Yes, when you are prompted to restart Windows.

Note that all previous restore points will be lost.
