My laptop can't detect my wireless modem

Greetings.

My laptop was working fine with connection to internet through my home modem. However, all of a sudden it refused to detect the modem, although it has no problem detecting other modems in the vicinity. Could it be caused by virus. I have it scanned with reports attached. Pls help me to identify the problem. I have no problem connecting to the modem with other devices such as iPad and iPhone. Thank you.

Other checks: verify the physical Wi‑Fi switch/Fn key or BIOS wireless setting is on; look in Device Manager → Network adapters for the wireless device (disable power‑saving, uninstall the device + reboot to force a fresh driver install); temporarily disable third‑party firewall/AV only as a diagnostic step; try a USB Wi‑Fi dongle or phone tether as a quick confirm of internal adapter failure. If a dongle sees the SSID while the internal card does not, the internal adapter (or its driver/firmware) is the likely culprit.

2 things i never read any of the above info ,and its [should be ]a wireless router [maybe a router/modem combo]did you try resetting the router ,either unplug for power source for a few min, or do a full reset ,small button on the back of router ,use a paper clicp to hold it for a few seconds untill all the lights go out and come back on

Thanks Caperjack. Yes I reset the router/modem but didn't work. I am 80% sure the problem is not with the router/modem as it works fine with my iPhone and iPad for connecting to internet. I have checked that the driver on my laptop is current. JK

There obviously a number of reasons as to why there is no internet access... however I've seen instances where utilities will indicate a good "hadnshake" with a device but the device was not functioning at its optimum. In your case there are several vendors who provide USB antennas that will get you productive until what's going on is figured out. The antenna that I used for my high school was made by Belkin. In light of the prvious my laptop's mobo had challenges brought on by electrical storms and power outages. Let me know how you make out!

Try downloading the latest wireless drivers for the Windows and install. After installing, restart the system and then try searching the network. If still doesn't work, there must be some hardware problem.
