You may also want to install some type of URL filtering component to make sure you dont visit sites that have been flagged as malicious, dont open up emails from people you dont know, dont open untrusted attachments, never install software that's not from a reputable source and isnt signed, etc...

in our house we use microsoft security essencials,for antivirus ,amd spywareblaster for url filtering with great success
