Hi,

I have been on numerous forums looking about this problem already. This seems to be the most focused so its the first and hopefully the last one i will have to post to.

Basically my msn messenger loads on startup of the comp which seems to be working fine apart from when i try to log in it disappears and a windows install box flys up saying preparing to install and then disappears to and says error code 2318. Then when i click that away it shows another box saying

"Windows live messenger setup has failed with error code "1603" Please go to live messenger site and download latest vers"

I have obviously tried to reinstall and whenever i go and do this it give me the same error codes. I cant even remove Messenger from my system either. It gives me the same error. I have a feeling that I have a serious Virus here cos it is a very annoying and strange error.

I have tried to do the Reg Edit trick that a lot of people with a similar problem did and it didnt work (http://www.edbott.com/weblog/?p=1515is where u will find that solution)...But obviously it didnt work for me. So i was on another part of this site (http://www.daniweb.com/techtalkforums/thread45029.html) and i read a posting by DMR and he said to install hijackthis and then paste the logfile here and hopefully somebody on this site can help me!!!! Well here is the log file and please please the simplest of solutions or the most intricate i dont care - i just need a response cos im sick of using mercury messenger etc.... thanks

Perhaps MSN tried to update, and failed doing that... Why? i could guess that your Windows Installer is broken [this is the pgm that installs windows components...]. Go to microsoft, dl windows installer 3.1. Then via CP uninstall your current version, and next install your new copy.
