Hi:

I'm a newbie and wonder how to optimize speed on my iMAC.

Thank you for your site's opinion regarding defragmentation not being necessary on iMAC (Yea Steve Jobs!). I always use Firefox browser, but often have two browsers running, like Safari, which crashes too often, so now I use Opera or Camino.

Any thoughts on speed would be great. I'm probably in the market for the new generation MACs, as 10.3.9 is antique by now.

In my experience the only things to do is to either put more physical memory in or upgrade your OS to Tiger, there is no optimization really worth bothering with. What spec machine are you running?
