I have just shifted from MS Windows on IBM compaible PC to an Apple.

I have copied all the data files (MS Word, MS Excel etc.) from my PC to a DVD. As I did so, the computer automatically changed the file attributes to read only. I then copied these files on to my apple harddisk.

I have tried hard to change the attribute so that I can modify my files when needed. I have failed. Please let me know how to do this on the Panther Apple OS.

Thanking you in anticipation.

Hi satish,
if you click on a transferred file in panther, click command (apple.key) + I.
An info window will appear and there is a option (Second to the last) called something like "owner & permissions" (dont know exactly, because i have a german version). Under Details you can look up who's the owner. Maybe another one than you is permitted to edit it. Worth a try :)
bye, dani_mac
