Yikes! My imac has both OS9.6 and 10.4. I usually use it in 9 'cause my little kid's games run best in that OS. I wanted to use OS10 so went to startup disc and told it to restart in that system. When the machine was in restart suddenly it went to a black screen and gave me a message in the top left corner that is partially obstructed but I can make out /ect/master.passwd:no such file or directory. It says this twice then has sh 2.05a# on the next line. If I hit the tab button it asks me if I want to display all 720 items y or n. What the heck's going on! I'm not totally frozen but don't know what to do. Can anyone help. Thanks a million!

Make sure you update the firmware on the iMac before you attempt to install OS X.
