Sometimes just putting a backup CD with data on it into the drive crashes Windows. I have no idea whether this is a hardware or a software problem. The machine came with Roxio Easy CD Creator over ten yeaars ago and it still runs if I put in a blank CD. Where should I start looking in order to solve this problem?

i would start by changing the drive ,if that makes no difference ,try a power supply
