:-| have a compaq pc w/win98. have used at&t broadband for awhile but have horrible ping of up to 500ms. not sure, but think ping was decent at one time. also have a 2003 linsky lne100tx network card.
cleaned harddrive w/o any improvement. also, my laptop came in at 24ms. do i need a new card, new computer, or what?

upgrading to broadband from analog is no guarantee of improved connection. (you might wanna read the fine print on the contract). a bad hardware connection between you and the at&t hub is probably the culprit and if so is basically a prob. that you'll be stuck with dispite all the rants and raves to their tech support which isn't going to impress them much.
