Jump to Postdo you have a cross over cable? that would put the network Tx going into your NIC's Tx and it would only show output packet count increasing on each side as you describe.

That, or perhaps firewalling is preventing any responses. He is not providing the background information to help us out here.
I have a feeling it is in the wiring, but until I know more about the OS, and the setup, I am going to stop here.

dear i have tried cross over cable, changed nic of different types, used 3com, intel,
even disable the onboard lan, still it keeps on acting the same way.
