Actually, on second thought, a lot of stuff needs to be regenerated into the cache. It might take longer than expected the first time pages are accessed on a per-forum basis. You might have been the first person to access those moderator-specific pages.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Really??? It should all be good to go.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Yes but totally taken care of.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Oh, what little ye know about my favorite TV series :) They all graduated high school quite a number of seasons ago. Then they were in college about three seasons ago. Now they are all junior reporters at the Daily Planet.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Shush you!!

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Aww, poor Davey. I hope tomorrow goes better for you.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Just noticed a bunch of new graphs and charts and information in Google Webmaster Tools on a couple of the pages. Checking out the Search Queries page right now.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I have an iPad but unfortunately I left it in my car today. I'll try to remember to check when I leave work.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I believe that's what his complaint is. That it works fine on desktops but not on mobile browsers.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Search engines do crawl and index content in iframes. However, they don't treat them as part of the page in which they are embedded. The page in which they are embedded will show up as having no content. It is as good as having a blank page with only a link to the iframed page.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Once someone downloads a file to their own computer, you no longer have any control over what they do to it. I think I'm a bit confused by what you are trying to do.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

It is very hard to scale an image. As it is, it was a big process to get them to conform to the two sizes we have now.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Yes, DaniWeb is designed for higher resolutions. I think it's an acceptable compromise that there is a little bit of overlap with these large images when viewing at smaller resolutions.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I know we're having a lot of problems with the ads as of yesterday. Working to resolve.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I just reached out to the partner. Hopefully they can get in touch with the right people.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Unfortunately I have no control of this particular ad. It is through a partner and I have no way of getting in touch with the creative team behind it. However, it should be going away in about two weeks, if you can hold out.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Welcome back. Hope your recovery has been going well :)

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I don't think you understand :)

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Umm ... how did you just break the DaniWeb layout?

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Sorry, Airshow, I didn't use your solution at all.

I edited a php file in order to get the advanced editor to work. Still no solution to the quick editor.

We're trying to add a custom button. The editor_toolbar_on template (templates are stored in the database, they are not actual files) only affects the advanced editor.

No changes were needed to vbulletin_textedit.js or to the vbulletin phrases in order to get the advanced editor to work. In fact, I can 100% confirm that an edit to a php file was needed, because that's what I did.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Baby steps.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Watermark goes away now.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Was able to edit one of the php files to get it to work for the advanced editor. QuickReply is still an entirely different story.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Hey there, thank you for your investigating :)

The problem is that the editor_toolbar_on template does not work for the Quick Reply editor; Only the full editor. Additionally, custom buttons within editor_toolbar_on are dynamically created when new bbcode is added and injected into the editor_toolbar_on template. Additionally, the modification to vbulletin_textedit.js does not account for the ICODE button already being handled elsewhere in that script (as all custom bbcode is).

The link that you sent me to only works for the full editor, not the quick reply.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

In this new version of DaniWeb (from a few months ago), the watermark no longer goes away when you click. I was hoping that it would help people notice it, and no one complained about it not going away until now, so I figured it was just some additional help with no nasty side effects.

That being said, aside from Alex, who here thinks that it should go back to being removed when clicked upon? Has it been doing any additional help, remaining there?

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Depending on what your website is about, 1000 pageviews per day could generate you anywhere from $20 to $200 per month. Probably on the lower end of that.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Haha awesome.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

With dashes is less intuitive for people to remember, and comes off as a little "spammy". Without dashes is easier for the end-user, but you won't get the benefit of keywords in the domain name, which search engines are starting to devaluate anyways. Use keywords within page names such as www.domain.com/keyword.html to counter the effect.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

OK keep us updated.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

As far as I am aware, we were able to successfully resolve the problem this past Friday. Are you sure it isn't just slow on your end?

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

It *is* possible to put it into the full editor. What it is just about impossible to do is to put it into the Quick Reply editor (where I am typing now). vBulletin received this complaint a lot and the latest version of vBulletin (vB 4, we are on vB 3.8.x) I believe has standardized the editor toolbar that they use. This isn't the case in our version, and we currently have no plans to upgrade.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I used phpBB, and heavily hacked it, before vBulletin, so I do remember it being very easy to add additional buttons, unlike vBulletin.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

The new version of Twitter also puts extra emphasis on location. Wonder if it's a coincidence.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

After making some changes, the database has remained stable over the weekend and we feel fairly confident that the problem has been resolved. The monthly newsletter is set to start going out tomorrow and I am pretty confident that it will do so without a hitch.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Bug fixed.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Oh goodness. I'm so sorry. I wasn't aware this got screwed up. I worked on the code yesterday and didn't realize this was affected. Will take a looksie in just a few.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Hey guys,

I know that there has been a lot of site downtime the past few days, and I want to sincerely apologize. We've been working around the clock trying to get to the bottom of it, and think we finally have figured out the cause tonight. We're going to give it a 24 hour tryout and hope that there are no issues, and then we can call it resolved. :)

In the meantime, I am hard at work at the office -- yes, at 10 pm on a Friday night -- trying to work on speeding up the web servers a bit by optimizing code where it counts. Once we're sure that we've solved our database issues, we're going to be putting two additional memcache servers online, and then the plan is for me to spend some more time optimizing code putting as much into memcache as absolutely possible. Anything we can do to take the load off of the database servers!

Using color within code tags *does not work* when code is syntax highlighted, because the highlighting parser takes control of what color things are. Using color *does work* within code tags that are not syntax highlighted.

Code tags are syntax highlighted manually when you manually specify a language such as . Code tags are syntax highlighted automatically when you are posting within a language forum, such as the C++ forum, and you do not use color bbcode within the code. It is smart enough to make that distinction, and not syntax highlight automatically if you are attempting to color lines in your code.[code=Java]. Funnily enough, my birthday is November 11th, and my Driver's License expires on 11/11/11.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I don't even want to talk about today. It was bad. I want to forget today existed.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

What do you mean allowed by GA rules? Google AdWords rules? I would assume it is not.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Adwords hasn't been loading for me for the past hour or two. It just keeps saying Loading... across the middle of the page, and keeps refreshing itself. Is it just me?

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

This is really getting out of control. We know that there is a memcache issue going on, but we don't know what is causing it or why it keeps happening.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

OMG thanks for the catch! It's the second Wednesday of the month!! Went ahead and fixed that.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Thank you for your kind words, and to everyone out there who works together to make DaniWeb a success.

Aww, sorry to hear that Narue. Unfortunately, I typically stress out relatively easily when it comes to meeting deadlines, so I sympathize.

Actually, there was the Jewish holiday (two days). Then, the day it ended, Eyal scooted from New York to California for the Intel conference and to do the interview with Steve Wozniak. Then, the day he returned home, another Jewish holiday started.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Oh I see what you're saying. I actually fixed another bug just before where if you weren't registered, and you got to that registration page and actually filled out the registration form, it STILL didn't work. Now at least that is fixed.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

We used to allow people to edit posts indefinitely, and ran into OH SO MANY constant problems with that. People were constantly going back and editing posts in such a way that it made entire discussions incomprehensible. The 30 min limit ensures that posts are only edited for typos, ommissions, etc.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Should be fixed now. It is, right?
