Eeek, really?? I need to go ahead and fix that ...

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I'm confused what you're asking for. It seems like what you're asking is EXACTLY what Sanjay said you can do, by subscribing to threads with no email notification.

So, in an effort to reach out more to the community, I've decided it would be a good idea to invite anyone and everyone who wants to come to the DaniWeb office on a regular basis.

We went and put together a DaniWeb meetup group from 6pm - 8pm on the second Wednesday of each month, here in the DaniWeb office. Just as an opportunity to reach out to DaniWeb members in the surrounding area, in a laid back fun pizza-party type of way.

Anyone who wants to come, please RSVP at:

http://www.meetup.com/DaniWeb-LITM/

Like I said, based on how the first one goes, I'd really like to do this regularly. There aren't really that many techie / programmer meetups here on Long Island, so I thought why not start my own!

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Cool. Just marked this thread as solved.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

A new flash ad has gone up which should have fixed the problem.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I was able to contact the advertiser and we are temporarily just showing the image ad until they can fix the Flash one.

All three are important. It's also important to have your keywords throughout the body content on your page. Yes, Google is putting significantly less weight nowadays on meta tags than they used to. But that doesn't mean they aren't important or are discounted entirely. At the very least, social media sites like Facebook use meta tags when you like or share a URL, so they are important from that angle.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

The opposite of what you did, since it was not ethical for you to plug your company when posting this question.

Ethical SEO is naturally building backlinks because the content and quality of your site is outstanding, and not paying for backlinks or participating in any other tactics that Google might consider questionable.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Engage the community. Give them a reason to want to interact. Seed the forum with questions that are just begging to be replied to. Get your friends to post and get discussions -- and debates! -- going amongst you.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

DaniWeb was started with MUCH less than $500, so yes, anything is possible.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you do "word \t word" it is possible that the first word ended right before the tab stop, making the tab not noticable.

Foo	Bar
Foo Bar	Foo Bar
	Foo Bar

Line 1 = Foo\tBar
Line 2 = Foo Bar\tFoo Bar
Line 3 = \tFoo Bar

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Yes, that's the same issue.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

But it's against the rules to have multiple accounts :)

In any case, I was able to get an example of it. Need to debug. :)

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Right ... that's the problem though. It's super impossible to debug when I need to wait for someone else to post to a news story while being careful to avoid viewing/posting in a thread in the same forum.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Hmm, okay. I can't seem to find the icon at all, although I do notice the problem when I click the purple 'New' icon on the forum listings page.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

That button doesn't work in New Articles. It's supposed to take me to the first unread post in the thread, but it doesn't.

Where DOES it take you? Unfortunately, I'm having a problem trying to duplicate this.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Umm ... what does this have to do with Internet marketing?

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

News stories aren't supposed to have avatars. Which forum are you talking about?

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

The purpose of redirects is so that members can find moved threads. When a moderator moves a thread, the thread starter gets a PM that their thread has been moved. However, all the other members and website visitors who may have been following the thread, whether or not they replied to it, can easily become frustrated in that the thread suddenly mysteriously disappears.

Another situation is that a thread in a less popular forum might be moved to a more popular forum where it is no longer on the first page. In this case, not having a Moved redirect is just an instant death sentence to the thread upon being moved.

On a separate note, whether or not there is a redirect or not, moderators can see a log of moved threads through the Thread Tools menu.

I'm sorry :( Advertising has been killer at taking up my time this week.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Sounds awesome ... Anyone have a picture of what the prototypes look like?

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Yup, I retweeted that video already :)

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Excited to see DaniWeb's coverage of the event over the next couple of days. I'm going to be following that Twitter hash tag!! :)

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I'm not sure what you're referring to, sorry? Google sites??

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Get other sites to link to your site using the keyword you want to target as anchor text (text for the links). There's no trick to it ... provide good content and other sites will naturally link to you.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Woohoo! I'm so excited. Eyal just called me up from California to tell me he is on his way to Cupertino to go to dinner with Woz and his wife :)

Funnily enough, I happen to have a Woz signature-edition Apple IIGS from back in the day (circa early 1980s). Eyal missed on the boat on the sig edition but also happened to have had an Apple IIGS. He actually flew it out to Cali with him and is taking it to dinner so that Woz can hand-sign it!!

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I'll look into it on Monday.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

The reason this isn't done is because all of the JavaScript required to load the full editor is very heavy, and would significantly slow page loading times whenever browsing threads.

However, I believe this idea is currently being circulated in the vBulletin forums for an upcoming version.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Hi,

Unfortunately, it seems you are doing all the right things. Just keep persevering and maybe you'll strike it lucky at the next google algorithm update. Be sure to really go strong on getting a constant stream of new backlinks always being added.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Don't you mean you want to decrease bounce rate? A high bounce rate is bad.

Bounce rate is the percentage of people who come into your site, look at one page, and then instantly leave without clicking around your site. In other words, they come and then bounce away.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Lots of back links pointing to your site from high ranking sites.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Ryshad, affiliate links are when you sign up with CPA based programs and try to resell other people's products.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Lots of high PR sites constantly linking to you (Google wants to find new sites starting to link every day). Also, quality content that frequently changes. And a good navigation structure that passes pagerank around.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

You can specify canonical urls in meta tags, so that when search engines spider a page, they are aware of the URL that you want the page to be accessed by.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Yup, been using IE8 since it came out. (It launched with Windows 7, right??? I forget already) FireFox is still faster, but I'm an IE fan.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Does the Yahoo Publisher Network still exist? Try banner ad networks such as Tribal Fusion or Burst! Media.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

It's not that they are falling off the todo list. It is that I am still contemplating what I want to do. I haven't made up my mind yet.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Social networking not only gets you traffic from the various mediums (Facebook, twitter, etc) but SEO is all about getting as many sites out there to link to you. Social networking can be very viral in that regard too.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

The best backlinks are, of course, from sites which have a high ranking themselves. Just about all the methods you mentioned are free, so it can't hurt to constantly build as many as you possibly can.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Need we have any doubt it will be though? ;)

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

That's why I used the word "articles" instead of "posts". Asking a question isn't an article.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Those two rules didn't cover it because someone can write an article and then post it on 10 different sites. We only want content that is unique to DaniWeb :)

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Google AdWords is when you buy clicks (PPC, or pay-per-click).
Google AdSense is when you are a publisher with a content-based website, and you want to show ads on your website and earn money when visitors click on them.

You can sign up at http://adwords.google.com or http://www.google.com/adsense/

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Sorry, don't know enough about either to help you. However, I was under the impression they were both CMS software for publishing articles, not for eCommerce with the ability to manage shopping carts.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Yup, it's been around for a few months now. Those Bing imitators!! Personally I think it's terrible. When it first came out, it was enabled by default, and there was such public outrage that it was taken down within hours.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Hi ... Yeah, your question is a little long :)

I guess what I'm confused about is what specifically you are asking. It's hard to give you feedback because many of the links in your dynamic version don't work. For example, I clicked on Replacement Light Bulbs and all of the links to specific products just redirect me back to the homepage.

Also, I looked at the HTML code for this page and don't see any meta keywords or descriptions.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Link works for me ... Facial recognition software from Face.com that will put a name to every photo on the internet

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Super excited for this!!

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I readded the rule "Do not post articles that you have already published on another website" that seemed to have gone away amongst the rule redesign.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Yes, I'm going to link to our Code Explanation page. :)
