Are you zoomed in at 100%?

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

We can't do that because clicking anywhere within the area would trigger the highlighting, including clicking on any of the links themselves. Because clicking on the link is a single click, we need something else to differentiate highlighting.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Replace double click with single click? You mean for watched articles?

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Can you do same for watched articles on receiving new reply?

No because it would be too resource intensive to do a check on every page load, unfortunately. :(

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Oh, I think that's some type of weird IE bug. It works fine for me in IE 9 and in IE 8 compatability mode.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

The human verification should be gone now. It was a bug. Sorry about that.

What do you mean the color scheme doesn't change?

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

You mean the submenu isn't showing up?

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Permalinks for posts exist ... Click on the timestamp.

Page views will most likely come back, but not anytime very soon. There are a lot more things I want to do first.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member
  1. Yes, many other sites are affected.
  2. DaniWeb was hit by the Google Panda algorithm update back in February 2011 and it took us until July I think to make a full recovery.
  3. Google makes I think somewhere like 200 algorithm changes a year. I forget exactly how many they say. They are always working to improve their results by targeting spam, content farms, etc.

That would not apply to me. My content is original; I wrote it myself.

DaniWeb's content is all original as well, of course.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Keep It Organized if it's a complete thread hijack. However, if it makes sense as part of the thread, then it's fine. I would rather have my question answered late than never. It can still help other people even if the OP doesn't need help anymore.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

In the case of the post that's linked to, I think it's fine to bump a 2 day old thread that hasn't really seen any action. I wouldn't really call that abuse. I've seen some desperate homework-seekers who bump threads every hour with rude comments.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

OK, it should be working now :)

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Gah ... this is weird.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Testing ...

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

No, because in the new system, all moderators have access to all forums (mods aren't limited to certain forums), effectively making all moderators super moderators. And now we have four active admins, although Julienne will be missed.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Hi :) I'm Dani. I'm the founder, admin, and also I code the site.
James (aka deceptikon) is a co-admin who also helps code.
Davey (aka happygeek) is a co-admin who writes our monthly newsletter and maintains our editorial section.
Sanjay (aka ~s.o.s~) is a co-admin who leads up the moderation team.

Then there are a handful of moderators who help answer questions, remove spam and bad posts, and interact with the members.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Huh?? If it is your forum, you can edit the forum templates which are all HTML.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I'm going to have to put the code formatting notice set for all members, and not just newbies.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Did you paste it into a post where it is expecting [BBCODE], or did you paste it into one of the HTML templates?

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

The old DaniWeb was really flawed :( It really was. This new system has much better bones but it's still an evolution process. To receive email notifications, click the Watch this Article button at the bottom of the page. You can also go into your Edit Profile page and select "Automatically Watch Articles I Post In". There is a link at the top of every page called Watched Articles that will show you all articles you're set to receive email notifications for.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

The "1." under the book.php code should not be in the code. I don't know why it shows up there.

I fixed the formatting. Please be sure to properly format your code.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Because it looks good on my monitor and not on his. If he just used the PrintScreen and showed it to me, it would look good. He's trying to get me to see what he sees on his monitor.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I can just barely make out that it has a yellow background, but that's because I'm looking for it.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Notice though that mark of selection is not colored background, but only lines around message turns yellow. Lines are very thin and the change is almost invisible.

The background turns yellow too. It's just very pale. Are you on a laptop? It might be harder to see on some displays.

It's on double click because singlee click is for the links.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Oh, sorry, I misunderstood. Double click it.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

When viewing an article, you can click the "Watch this Article" button towards the bottom of the page. There's also an option in the profile editor to automatically watch articles that you post in.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Using a P2P file sharing problem is completely legal ... as long as you use it to share files you have the right to own. File sharing programs are just tools. Like any tool, you can use it legally or illegally. I can chop a salad with a knife or I can use it to commit murder.

Legally speaking, P2P file sharing programs still exist because they potentially can be used legally. I can put my open source software up on a P2P network as a way of distribution. I can also put a bootleg movie up on a P2P network.

When it comes to music sharing, a group of kids can put music from their after-school band up on a P2P network as a means of creating an audience and getting their music "out there". In many cases, P2P networks are the only outlets for content creators and artists to find an audience. On the other hand, they can also be used to distribute well-known music without the approval of the record companies, who are losing money when people download their music instead of buying it at the store.

Hmm ... why is this thread marked solved? It seems rather up in the air to me!

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Is there no CSS on the page?? Try clearing your cache?

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

No, this feature was readded only two days ago, after this thread was started.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

OK, the formatting tutorial has been written!! Yay! There's a link to it in the top right of every editor on the site.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I can't write a mysql tutorial here due to the limited space

What do you mean due to the limited space?

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

If possible, use the same URLs you used to. People are forced to edit their site HTML since the backends are gone...

There is a new URL, but the old URLs are 301 redirected to the new location, so there is no need to update your site's HTML.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Ok, they're back! Sorry for the long wait guys.

http://www.daniweb.com/stats/get_badge

There's a link in the footer of every page of the site for logged in members.

A DaniWeb cookie does not prefill your username and password in for you. In fact, we would have no way of filling in the password field because we do not store your password in plain text in a cookie on your machine.

As James #2 mentioned, this is a browser setting on your side.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

but "~~~" is more than a little obscure

It's used by Github, Reddit, StackOverflow, etc. ...

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Hi,

Firstly, thanks!

Secondly, please bare with us :) It actually isn't just a design change. The entire site was completely migrated over to a new platform, so a lot of things are different under the hood. As of right now, you will only receive one email a day with all article updates for articles that you are watching. Please make sure that you have checked in your control panel to automatically watch articles that you post in.

Also ... what member badge are you talking about?

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Is there any place that explains how the new system works?

I don't have any of my own tutorials written yet (there will be a FAQ soon). However, we use standard Markdown language and there are plenty of tutorials on the web.

For example, as I am typing, the code tag in the first sentence is blue and underlined and everything following that is red.

HUH??

One issue that we DO have is that the JavaScript live preview currently does not support fenced tags. To avoid confusion until that support exists, I am avoiding promoting that feature. I just mentioned it because it solves the VB syntax bug.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Yup ... it's attempting to syntax highlight with C/C++ style highlighting. To force VB-style highlighting, use fenced blocks like this:

~~~ vb
Code goes here (not indented)
~~~
Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Yes, I know. Unfortunately, we're using a COMPLETELY different platform now and the backend would need to be rewritten from scratch. The old version can no longer be used, or even modified. The new system is so radically different.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

The new system currently does not have the functionality to make username changes. We plan on having this functionality by early next week. Please stay tuned.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I have no clue what you're asking?

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Fixed. :)

TrustyTony commented: This was missed by me also, if newbies find it is another question (advertizing it?) +0
Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

You need to put a new line before and after the code block. Unlike vBulletin's bbcode, Markdown is a more universal language used across many sites sich as Reddit, Github, etc. If you do a Google search for markdown tutorial or markdown documentation, you should be able to get a bunch of help.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Can you let us know what you did so it can help other people as well?

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Probably, but not right away. It wasn't a very used feature at all.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Your code wasn't indented. Is it better now?

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

That will be sorted out. :)

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Also the Code button on editor didn't post the right formatting when I tried it.

What did it do?
