Routing bug fixed. Thanks for letting me know :)

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Thanks, I'll look into it.

For your first 2 years? Welcome to my entire career ;)

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

That page has been floating around my Facebook news feed today.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Dani how do I even contact google?

You misunderstood me :( You don't need to.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I think it's really sad that this is actually a byproduct of the majority of threads being one-off wehre the OP never returns. I'm more interested in what we can do to rectify that problem in terms of getting them more interested in returning to not just mark the thread as solved, but to stick around. Then again, I guess returning to mark the thread as solved is a good first step, and it also goes a long way to make responders feel appreciated, which, in turn, makes them want to respond to more threads.

Iamthwee,

Google's mail server has your email and maintains your administrator's account.

You can temporarily switch your domain to use a different mail server, so that you have access to future email. Then, ask Google to send you a lost password reset, and you'll be able to receive it. Reset the password for the Google Apps administrator account.

Then, switch your MX record back to Google Apps.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Convoluted process, but would this work ...

Suppose you own the domain iamthwee.com and some random AWOL person is currently managing the Google Apps account for iamthwee.com

Since you are the domain owner, you can edit the domain's MX record through your domain registrar and point all email for @iamthwee.com to somewhere other than Google.

Then, you can request a Google Apps password reset, and you'll actually get the password reset email because it will be pointing to somewhere under your control.

Then, you can choose to point it back to Google Apps should you so desire. But I would highly recommend hosted Microsoft Exchange instead :)

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I don't get it. You are using Google Apps under a google domain you don't own or control?

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Why does a 4-5 page Jira website take 12 days to complete? Full days? I would think a couple hundred bucks.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

The edit button does automatically disappear. This only happens if you visit the page just at the cusp of the expiration window, where you load the page (where the edit button appears) just before the edit timeframe is up, but you actually click the edit button just after the edit timeframe is up.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Because of the weird date picker we use. You have to select '81 in the dropdown, and then the dropdown will repopulate going back another 20+ years.

Aside from that, you can manually type in a year into the text box instead of selecting it from the dropdown.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

No style revision planned. I'm quite content with the current revision that, as you say, is my humble attempt at taking the previous incarnation and making it more "social media" looking and community focused without it losing its identity.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Yes, you're missing something :)

When you do a lost password request, it changes your password to a random unknown combination of characters, and logs you into the edit profile page. You need to reset your password to something and save that. At this point, your password is some unknown entity, so you will want to go ahead and change it from your edit profile page ;)

The tab issue is by design. However, I believe the tab closing issue has been resolved. Can you confirm?

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Well now you tell us!

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Personally I prefer camel case, username or multipleWordUsername

However, I code in PHP, and it's convention there to use all lowercase variables, with words separated by underscores, such as username or user_id

Personally I think it's ugly.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

The TAB? Do you mean a tablet? Huh??

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Mike helped debug this with me for quite awhile this morning, and we narrowed the problem down to Google+. Yes, you heard that right, Google+ has an issue with the latest version of Google Chrome.

Mike even had issues on the actual Google.com page about Google+!

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I am on an iMac with Chrome 33.0.1750.117

What version are you guys using? Unfortunately I don't have access to a Windows computer at the moment.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I think I know what the problem is. Bare with me until I have a chance to test my theory a bit later. Have errands to run now!

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

The easiest way to get started for someone without a lot of web dev experience is to use a preexisting service.

Here's an example of one => http://www.bravemailer.com/

Is it possible that you were before updating the browser?

Second question: Do you have the issue with all windows closed except for the chat?

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Are you logged into Facebook?

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

OK so something in the Javascript has a memory leak. It might be the editor. Are you noticing a difference being on pages with the editor vs pages without? Being logged in vs not logged in?

When did this start happening??

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I'm confused by what you mean. Webpage size? Standard sizes??

Basically you just need to design your sites to accomodate people who browse your site from all different size web browsers and resolutions. Design for 1024 pixels wide, typically.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Are you sure it's the editor that's the issue? I haven't been able to replicate this :( When did it start happening? And the editor freezes for you?!?!

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Do you mean like your member activity stream?

http://www.daniweb.com/members/1100184/m1k3mca/activity_stream

Activity done on their posts ... you mean if like a moderator edits/deletes a post? You receive a private message if that happens.

You can also watch articles and receive notifications when they're updated.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

No need to keep refreshing, either ... you'll receive hourly email alerts for threads on your watch list.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

That's the point of the mailing list :) It actually already does filter out content we don't think you'd be interested in. There's a warning label when you opt into it that you're supposed to set up mail rules to do filtering for you based on your own needs.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Yes, that is definitely a serverside issue that is James' fault and not mine.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Unfortunately I can't look into anything until I have access to an SVN server :( Waiting on James.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

If it hangs, then it's possible it's Javascript initiated by www.daniweb.com

You can't use that to determine which it is.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

We're currently looking into switching from Apache to Nginx in the near future, so once that happens, we'll go from there. Right now, my hands are tied because my computer is apart and I'm in the midst of moving offices.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Is this a serverside slowness or a javascript slowness everyone is experiencing?

Serverside = Page takes forever to contact the server and receive a response from the server
Javascript = Page half-loads and then the browser stalls before downloading the rest

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Gah, this question requires knowledge of WordPress Woo Commerce, which is pretty niche. Hopefully someone out there could help you ... good luck!! :)

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I'm incredibly sorry. We had some server glitches this morning that left the database out of sync, and I just can't find your missing posts in the database. Perhaps if you give me something to search on ...?

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

We've been having huge server issues all day today. I'm really sorry. I'll try to find your misplaced posts in the database. Things are just wonky today.

<M/> commented: Gasp, no desert for you! :D +0
Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I'm going to investigate in the database and see what is out of sync. Really seems like a server glitch snafu'ed both operations midway through.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Both of these issues are related to posts that happened within minutes of each other. There was probably some type of server glitch that stopped the scripts from executing midway through.

We'll be switching off of Apache onto Nginx soon, which I hope is going to improve the situation.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Right, but what you are perceiving as being the difference between being logged on/off, is really that PM notifications are instant, and notifications about new posts are always delayed by up to an hour.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Oooh, I finally understand what you're saying!! You're not saying that you don't get them at all. You're saying that they just come very delayed. You assume that it's because you log off, and that's when you get them.

Watched article email notifications only get sent out once per hour. So if someone updated an article that you're watching, it can be up to an hour before you receive an email alert about it.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

There's just no way for emails to be sent out depending on login status. :-/

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Link to newsletter archive now in footer. Unfortunately the archive currently only goes back as far as our switch to the new platform in March 2012.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Still confused :)

James Cherrill has already been featured. You need to pick a member that doesn't showcase the 'Featured' badge in their member profile.

Oh, also, the counter stats aren't just on the listing page. They're also in the top right when reading a thread.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Looks like the counter issue is a caching issue, but it's a caching issue on my end, which means that refreshing isn't going to fix anything.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I wonder if two people tried deleting it at the same time? I'm not sure why it ended up at 0, but I'm retallying the counters now.
