Undelete has an Emergency Undelete feature which can recover deleted files. It runs from the CD-ROM, so you don't run the risk of overwriting the deleted files when you install the undeleting program.

Try Undelete -- it has an emergency undelete feature to recover files already deleted. It runs from the CD-ROM so you don't overwrite the deleted files by installing a file recovery program.

I was going to suggest Diskeeper for the reason that you can set it to run in the background. A little bit here, a little bit there! It just keeps it defragged.

By the way, if you download Diskeeper, you won't have to run in safe mode or shut down everything -- it doesn't have a problem with open apps.

You might also try some standard basic maintenance actions and see if that cleans it up. Here's a checklist: -- Delete all temp files (c:\windows\temp\*.tmp, or on XP C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp) -- Delete temporary internet files (c:\windows\temporary internet files\*.*, or on XP C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files) -- …

Having too many temp files can also mess with Windows' ability to operate properly. Here's my little "regular maintenance checklist". It might help, along with what you're already doing. By the way, certain programs just leak memory like mad. What apps do you regularly run? Maintenance Checklist: -- Delete all …

You also ought to try Diskeeper for WinXP. It's an excellent defragger.

Some things you can do to speed things up: -- Delete all temp files (c:\windows\temp\*.tmp) -- Delete temporary internet files (c:\windows\temporary internet files\*.*) -- If you use I.E., click on Tools, Internet Options, Delete Files, select "delete all off-line content", click OK -- Click on Start, Programs, Accessories, Systems Tools, …

Certain spyware/adware can also cause this, as well as a couple of trojans. Update your anti-virus software & run a full scan. Handle anything it finds. Then download AdAware, check for updates, run it and remove anything it finds.

Do you have a pop-up blocker? Try turning it off. (Obviously this wouldn't be the case for *all* links, but for any links going to pop-ups/new windows, this is a common problem.)

Get yourself a copy of AdAware (or another spyware removal program), check for updates and run it. Hedda Lora
