Well... umm... uh... I take out only the tower becuase I have monitors here (in my hole-in-the-wall). I think she has it fixed. I told her to move the plug to another outlet and it seems to have fixed the problem. Maybe! So I will see what happens in the next few days.

I thought about that but here is what gets me... I put in another computer, a different one (I just replaced the PS on it a weeks ago) and it did the same thing.

OS: WinXP

Problem:
When the teacher turns off the conputer for the night, it shuts down like normal. When she goes in the next day to turn the computer on, nothing! The hard drive light will not come on, only the green power light. It's not even running, just the green light is on.
When I take it out of her room and into my office to see what is wrong with it, it works just fine, like nothing happened.
The replacement computer has done this in her room too. I thought it might be the power cord and I replaced that. I still got the same results.

Any Ideas?

Assuming you are in fact behind a router, have you opened up those ports?

No, I didn't know how. Plus I wasn't sure of the safety risk. I have heard that there is a risk in opening those ports.

Also, what kind of soundcard do you have? Has it ever worked?

I've seen on certain types of half-duplex integrated sound cards, Yahoo chat won't work. I know you need a full-duplex sound card (input and output at the same time) to use the voice chat feature.

The sound card has always worked. I know that the mic and the sound will work together. Plus, all that I am doing is using the speakers to hear them, I don't even have the mid plugged in.

When I try and connect to the voice server, it says that I am stupid and that I should go away. It says that I can not reach it because I have a firewall up or something like that. If it is a firewall through the router, then I have no idea how to take it down.

Not sure where to post so I guess I will post here.

I have Yahoo! IM, and for some reason I Can not voice chat at all.
This even happens when I try and go into the website and chat there.

It suggests that I get out from behind my firewall and/or open ports 5001 or UDP 5055.

Anyone have suggestions? (Other than uninstall)

I always have music on in my office at work.
It varies from soft rock, to pop, rap, and then Weird Al.
When I have a student come in and say they need in a program, then I just turn it down, that way I can concentrate on the task at hand.

When at home... ah... what ever I can get my hands on. My mother and I run a small out-of-home DVD making production. We do small stuff like wedding vids and things ofthat sort. Mostly for friends and family. We are always looking for songs to go on the DVDs. (NOTHING ILLEGAL!!!)

No. The power outage turned off the router and all my computers at the same time. None of them were harmed. When the power came back, the router powered on and then one by one, we turned on the computers.

In any case, the computer that was not working, is.

Talk about nature!

The other night I was sitting there watching a movie with my bro when the power went out in the back part of the house. This powered down and then turned on the routers. AND IT WORKED! My brother now has power to everything and he can play Xbox live.

And who says that nature is out to get us?

Problem solved
