Okay, let me see if I can answer all this...

-I don't know how to increase the value of the files (I looked at it and am not sure what to modify)
-No, this is not a Novell system. It is a Win98 (I know, old stuff)
-Browser: IE6
-It will happen when the wesite for K12 Planet is accessed.
-It only happens when a teacher has Outlook and e-Class (another teaching program) up

bluedos82 42 Posting Pro

Oh yeah, the OS is Win98

I have a computer that is going weird on me. I need to get hte problem fixed. When a teacher tries to access a website, the error message pops up:
TOO MANY OTHER FILES ARE CURRENTLY IN USE BY 16-BIT PROGRAMS. QUIT ONE OR MORE 16-BIT PROGRAMS OR INCREASE THE VALUE OF THE FILES COMMAND IN YOUR CONFIG.SYS FILE

Any ideas?

I have a KDS Tiger/Visual Sensation v5 and I can not get the settings to go above 640x480 and 16 Color. I have already tried to download the drivers, but they are of no use for some reason.
Another Note is that this computer that it is connected to had to be remade. Well, more like it had to have a new HD and a teacher did not want to loose all her data, so she requested that I put the origional HD from her old computer into a new one. That MIGHT have something to do with it. Before the switch, it was running just fine. Someone have input on this matter?

bluedos82 42 Posting Pro

No beeps. IT sounds like the HD is getting power to it and that is about it.

bluedos82 42 Posting Pro

Me again all. I have more problems than a squirrel on an eight lane highway...

Right now I have a computer that will only power on and not boot. It doesn't post or anything, just turns on, makes a few sounds and then just stays on. Nothing on the monitor either.

What happened (or what was explained to me) was that the teacher who had this pressd print and it stopped working. I told her not to do it because it had a Spool 32 error that I was trying to fix. Well, she pressed print and it stopped working.

Now I have no idea what to do. I think she did something else, I don't know. HELP!

bluedos82 42 Posting Pro

I agree with caperjack. If you are in the WINNT and the System32 file, Get out. Those files are very sesitive and one false move... and disaster (well, most of the time.) If you want to clear up space, try uninstalling programs that you do not need anymore

bluedos82 42 Posting Pro

What do you mean by reveresed?Up-side-down?Because on the cnnection that goes to the computer there is a small 'bump' that is preventing me from turning it over. Also, When the drive tries to read, it make a loud clicking noise.

bluedos82 42 Posting Pro

I am having a bit of a problem with the A drive on a particular computer. It is always wanting to format every disk that I put in there. I have tried replacing the drive and it does the same thing. I have tried replacing the wires and connections, just to see if it would work. Nothing. I have used many drives. I have only been able to select only one because the others run continuously when the computer boots up (i.e. the light stays on all the time indicating that it is running.) I am about to tear my hair out with this thing. Someone help!

bluedos82 42 Posting Pro

I try to select another COM but there in only COM2 and the LTP port. THe ISP is Juno... It was working fine untill my aunt started deleting programs and the software for the modem was one of them

bluedos82 42 Posting Pro

Me again. I am having a huge problem with a modem.

My grandfather decided that he didn't need all this 'junk' on his computer, so he decided to uninstall all of it and not contact me. Needless to say, he can't get back on the internet.

I took a look at the thing and thought 'All I have to do is to install the drivers again and everything should be right.'

I installed the drivers and nothing. The computer still says that there is no modem. It is in the modems (under modem properties) and it says that it is in COM 2. I know that that is wrong and I need to get this corrected. Anyone have any ideas?

The Computer is an IBM Aptiva (I know, old thing) with WIN 95 (REALLY old thing). There wasn't a problem before he did that.

I have not seen it on the IMAX, I want to so badly though. I Have seen it once. I saw it the friday after it came out and I was impressed with it. It did leave alot of questions unanswered and somethings that I wanted to know. I still thought that it was a great ending to an awsome trilogy. I can't wait until they come put the with boxset of it.

bluedos82 42 Posting Pro

I did. Nothing. It is still on the add/remove programs. I tried to just remove it.. still, nothing

bluedos82 42 Posting Pro

I have several programs that will not uninstall and they are just taking up space. They all say that the uninstall file is missing. Any thoughts?

bluedos82 42 Posting Pro

Let me rephrase that: I inserted the card BEFORE I installed the drivers. There is not a conflict in the device manager... so I have no idea now

bluedos82 42 Posting Pro

I have tried to 'print w/o paper' and it does the same thing. I have already cleaned the connectors as much as I can and it still has the same problem. I have just contacted the HP service and they provided me with nothing but a headache.

bluedos82 42 Posting Pro

I have a HP Deskjet 648C that has problems...

I have fixed the noise that it was making (it was the color ink... it was leaking all over the connectors), but now I can't get the thing to print.

I know that it sounds like I had cleaned it and then it broke... it was doing this BEFORE I cleaned it. I have tried to print a test page, but no success there. What it does is that it seems like it is going to print. It takes the paper up from the tray and then it stops and the light (warning) starts flashing. I hae tried to correct this by pressing the button associated with the (warning) light, but that does nothing. Anyone have any ideas or clues?

This computer had a bad sound card (So I thought) and so I decided to replace it with one that was laying around the office (BRAND: Avance). I downloaded all the drivers that I would need and then installed the card. Everything went smoothly and now I can not get any sound out of it at all (like before I replaced the card). I already checked the volume and it is all the way up and it is plugged into the correct socket. I also have checked the speakers to see if they were any good. They are. Any thoughts?

bluedos82 42 Posting Pro

Umm.. abuse my powers... Well, no one has complained about my heat vision, yet... but I then again, no one has lived long enough to complain... No, I have never abused my powers as a technician. I am still new and fresh at this, I am only learning how to become more like the dominatirx that I was ment to be. MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA......

bluedos82 42 Posting Pro

The outlet is good. I forgot to mention:
I turned the monitor on and off. It is fine... that means that the power strip that it is plugged into is fine as well, so is the outlet in the wall. I took the computer out of the room and into my office to see if it was a plug error. I get the same results as before: No power.

bluedos82 42 Posting Pro

I have a computer that will not power. At all, what so ever! No power at all. I was thinking that it was the battery. I am not so sure, I want to get an outsiders opinion on this matter before I do any major 'sugery'

bluedos82 42 Posting Pro

Well, I found out the problem: There is wear and tear on the rubber belt that is in it. Faulty product. Thanx for the help guys

bluedos82 42 Posting Pro

I have a monitor that will not come out of 640 x 480, 16 colors. How do I fix this?

The Computer is a Generic brand with a standard VGA card. The monitor is a KDS Tiger 13".

bluedos82 42 Posting Pro

I have a Lasterjet 1000 that has something stuck in it, or at least I think there is. When it prints out, the paper comes out with a crease. Also it has an imprint on it that is on the Left side of the paper that looks like a staple. Is there any way to go in there and see what is causing this problem?

Who here is going to see Matrix Revolutions on the IMAX on Nov. 5th?

bluedos82 42 Posting Pro

Well *ahem* that was an interesting bit if a fight. Anyways, to everyone, thank you for the suggestions.

big_k105: No, there is no internet sharing in this network. We only have a 56k and I don't think that it would be a good idea to have the phone line tied up in that many knots. The main thing that we will be shaing is files and maybe a printer. Other than that, nothing more. well... intranet communication, that is about it. I want to have file sharing, printer sharing and some IM between computers. Yeah, that's all

I have several computers like this, but yes, the computer in question is the one that I did do the BIOS password rest on.

Sorry I can't give specifics on the machine; the majority of the computers here are at least 5-10 years old and this is my first time being in a situation like this.

bluedos82 42 Posting Pro

No, I don't need a 2900 series.. I just need something small for a home network... and BTW feigned... I am a she

bluedos82 42 Posting Pro

YES! It worked. Thank you to all who helped.

It's a Desktop computer, Generic and it is more than 5 years old. This is a school computer

To all of you who have posted with useful info, thank you

bluedos82 42 Posting Pro

Well, what happens is that I turn it on and it sounds like it is booting, I hear the HD start up and make on sound and then it just sits there; turned on and nothing on the screen.

Any ideas? :?:

In college all we did was we networked servers together...
I am about to network 3-4 computers in my home and I was just wondering if there was any way that I can connect them straight through a hub, without a server.

I'm sure that some people are laughing at me, but this is just a thought that I had

I have a computer that will boot (I think) but it requires an admin password to even allow it to boot.

THe screen is black and there is nothing on it but

Supervisor Password:

Is there anyway of changing this without knowing what the previous password is?

If not, what can I do to make this computer useable?

bluedos82 42 Posting Pro

I always use Anti-Static tools when I go in. I have already replaced the RAM with other sticks...

The screen did not have anything in it in the first place. The reason I replaced the battery is because it didn't even have one to begin with. The computer was discovered in a corner of a room and had not been used in a while.

The color of the light is correct (green)
The Voltage on the battery... I'm not too sure about that, I will have to check that.
Ya see, This is a school computer and I can work with what I have.

Here's the problem:
I am fixing this computer because it will not turn on. Well, I replace the battery in the MB, but now all it does is just turns on; no boot, no display no nothing. Any suggestions?
