About a month ago, the virus 'download.trojan' was discovered on my campus. I went to every computer that had it and deleted it (safe mode, ran anti-virus, etc.) Here in the past week, I have had that pop up more and more. It is only on a few computers. These computers were exposed to the dreaded w32.spybot virus.
I talked to my head tech, and he said that it was one computer infecting many. I have my thoughts on which one it is, but then again, it could be more than one.
I have thought about taking those computers and formatting them all over again.
Might the previous virus have left a backdoor for this other virus to come in?
What might be a way to get rid of the darn thing once and for all?
Any Ideas?
Um.. no. I haven't thought about that. I will do that and get back to you about it.
I know that it is disconnected (it has that IP that starts with 169.#.#.#), but it shows that it is connected to the network. It has working before too. I mean it has been on this network since the beginning.
It's at least 5 years old. So a BIOS update should do it, huh? Well, how do I do this. I have never done one.

I just installed a second hard drive on my open computer.
I did this because this is a computer that I use as extra storage and backup my network on.
I installed a second hard drive (one that I have had lying around for a while). It is a Western Digital, 30GB hard drive.
When I went to see how much was taken up, the computer recognizes the hard drive, but only as a 1.99GB hard drive.
Is there any way that I can regain the lost 28.1 GB?
OS: WinXP (Home or Pro Unsure)

I set up this network about a year ago. I had some problems with the connections going down constantly. This is a wired network. I have 2 Linksys routers, one which is the internet router so that my network can have a constant I-net connection. The other is connected to the computer in question because he uses XBOX live.
I have a total of 4 computers on this network.
What is happening is that the computer in question is hooked to the network, but for some reason will not aquire an IP address. I have it set on DHCP, but it will not get one. I try to set the IP address manually, but that didn't work either. When you look at the router to see if it is connected, I see all the connected lights are on.
This also happens when he tries to get onto xbox live.
Any ideas?

Already did all that.
Still getting the error message.
Any other ideas?
YAY! I am 143!
I think....
I have seen these pictures before. They are not of the tsunami. These pictures were purportedly taken in Thailand in December 2004, but evidently they actually date from 2002 and depict not a tsunami, but the Qian Tang Jiang River, in Hangzhou, China.
This the the quote from www.snopes.com
There is no such thing as a dumb question... Just a lot of inquistive idiots.
That sounds like something that one of my teachers would do!
The error message is in relation to wualcts.exe
I did research and the following exe is considered. Spyware
My question is how do I go into the registry and delete this annoyting messge?
Thanks guys. Figured it out!
Location: Principal's office
OS: 98SE
Problem:
Last night (Tuesday) we did a Symantec update, meaning that all the computers were left on.
When the principal restarted his computer this morning, the computer only powered on, no visual on the monitor and just beeped.
This beep is about 2-3 seconds long and repeats its self ever 2-3 seconds.
BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP
I know that it is a Hardware problem, but where do I start?
Thanks for the help guys. We figured it out!
What it was was a virus that hit only a few computers that were sending out useless packets and clogging the network.
Symantec had not gotten word of this, so there was not a patch for it yet. We sent in our stuff to them, and they made the patch.
All computers here have been disinfected and are returning to their normal functionality in the classrooms.
This virus had a number of names. It tried to disguise its self by looking like a legit program (Winupdates.exe and also another program that you could never find).
It was in the system32 folder. We ran TrendMicro and deleted both files. The computer ran just as smooth and stopped clogging up the network.
So thanks again for the help!
Thanx for the words of advice.
We have already went to Symantec (That is who our Anti-virus is) and they have not heard anything about this.
All computers (expcept Laptops) are stationed in the rooms, they never leave. On top of that all computers (including laptops) have the latest patches from Symantec. So even if they were exposed to an environment outside of the school system, they are protected.
We have located the computers that have been sending out crap (all except 2 on my campus) and they have been disconnected. We have tried cleaning them with Ad-Aware, scanned them with Symantec and nothing is comming up.
The weird thing about these computers, is that there are programs on there that we know we did not install PLUS we can not find anything on the running program (I mean we can not find any information about the program).
We have one called day2.exe and we have no idea what it is to or what it does.
There are several more that we can not find stats on and we are thinking that these programs are what is causing all this.
Problem is, what are they? What is the program? and if we uninstall it, will it harm the computer?
So, that was just one small chip off a HUGE block.
Location: District Wide
OS: Win 98, ME, 2K and XP
Problem:
Alrighty-then...
What we have here is a major problem. It is district wide.
The problem is that we have a virus running around and it has only infected a few computers per campus.
Here is the thing though; We are not sure if it a virus, a worm or what...
It has been doing nothing but sending out packets left and right and slowing down the network majorly. Even to the point where the Internet does not work at all (we all know how teachers need their I-Net).
All that we know is that what ever this thing is, it is attacking Port 113.
Can anyone tell me anything about this? Is there something out there that I might have missed?
This has our entire team screatching their heads (amongst other things)
Sorry about the long time to post
It gives me a fatal error: can not read IP

Here is the deal. This computer is old, I mean OLD! but, it runs like a champ. Today it started messing up; it was beeping.
I mean, like, fast beeping. I have no idea what the beeping means, but I know that when the screen comes up, it is beeping in sync with the memory count.
I changed out the memory stick thinking that was the problem... nope.
I can't even get into the BIOS to change things.
Ideas?
I remember last week when I had to get Halo2. I had it on reserve from 2 months ago -Special Edition - It was not for me, it was something that I knew my brother wanted, so I decided to do the sisterly thing and get it. Well, my mother paid for the rest of it and she wanted to give it as a X-Mas present. Those were the LONGEST few days of his life. He didn't know that I got it for him.
So on Nov. 9, I came home and out comes my brother, dripping from the shower, demanding to know where hsi copy of Halo2 was. I played dumb.
But, me and my mother dedcided to go ahead and give it to him. He was happy. I have not seen him since.
Let me see... in Texas.. where I am..
The cheapest is 1.78/gal.
Helped out your teachers how? Where are you located?
I work in a Middle School in Texas.
We have teachers here that teach World History. I had a lot of teachers who didn't know what they were going to use as a visual aide.
I have already seen this used in many rooms. They are all just putting it on the projectors and letting it play.
Thanx again for the link!
THANX! That has helped out many of my teachers here.
OK... Here is what I have
2 Computers, 2 simple problems, 2 mind boggloing cases.
Here is the First:
OS: 2K
This is a computer that in part of a lab. It is hooked up to the network through a large hub in the room. All is well. Well, we are supposed to have the students log in and work on the computers. This one refuses to get on the network. I have checked the domain, checked the wires, checked everything else that I can think of. It Still will not log in. So, I change out the Computer and put another in it's place. It won't log in either and that one was loggin in just fine. Now the one that was there before works in my office.
Problem 2:
OS: XP Pro
Teacher's computer; a must fix now kinda thing. Out in the room, it says it has no connection. I hook up a 'loaner' computer to the same jack and it works!
I hook up the origional computer, and it works in my office!
Any ideas on either one?
Ok... NEW THING:
I did a system restore... IT WORKED! But when I ran Ad-Aware, it deleted the connection again. I tried to do another restore, but it won't wokr now. What do to?
PRO
OK... new problem... I can get it to PING the server...
But it still will not go anywhere.
well, the connection is good... then it has to be the computer... right?
I would either plug this PC into a known good working connection or take a known good working PC and try it on this PCs connection, cable and all. At least this will narrow the problem to the PC or your cable connection. It's impossible to prove if cables and nics are truly good when your in a non-working state.
Will do! I will le you know the progress when I get done.
Ok, so I was wrong.
It's not the radios. The computer has disconnected its self from the network and I have no idea how to get it back on.
I have checked the cables and the NIC, both are fine and working properly... I have checked the connection at the main hub, connected there.
Anything else that I might be missing?
Location: ENglish Rm
OS: XP
Problem:
I have this computer that has a problem...
It is taking an IP address from the radio down the hall when it should be taking the IP from the server.
What should I do to correct the problem?
I was watching Channel 1 today (its something that the school has; the news for kids kinda thing)
And I heard BOTH Kerry and Bush say:
No Draft is needed. The Draft will NOT be reinstated during MY presidency!
xtinea --> Short Name
"Um, Well, I don't want to rule the ENTIRE world, Just your half as well as mine."
twenty of ten --> Seven of Nine
oh, shoot my monkey ->
<?php if(shot($monkey)) { die(); } else { echo("You missed"); } ?>
you missed --> Ha Ha!
