Thank you for the words of encouragement, KcOarf. Well, I was informed just the other day that this change will only effect the student computers and that they will be updated to 2K. This means less work on my part, but more because I need to create the user accounts of all the students instead of having them all log on with one universal Password. Plus, I have to set up a server so that each student can have their own small space for stuff that they want to keep (I think my boss is going to do this). Also, the programs that we do have are 2K Compliant or have a patch that makes them avaliable in this version of Windows.
We are upgrading legaly, because I remember members of Microsoft (just reps.) comming here and making us sign something saying that we are not doing this illegally and that if we did, severe punishment would be the result.

This is a link to download a good benchmarking tool.

http://www.aida32.hu/download/aida32pe_393.zip

It will tell you everything that you want to know about the PCs you are working on and if you export the results file to HTML, it will create hyperlinks to the manufacturer sites to further assist you in finding drivers, etc.

Shorten the link to: http://www.aida32.hu to get to the main site.

There are other tools, but this is the only one that I have used in my very limited experience.

Good luck.

Umm... The website is a dud. It gives me a 404.. and then the website is closed.

Well, I have been there and it told me nothing. Well, at least it told me that I am an idiot and I should RTFM, and I did, and I STILL have no idea how to use it.

Has anyone used or worked with a Logicube OmniClone 5u before? I have been asked to use one to clone one hard drive onto 5 drives.

Anyone have any input?

I forgot to mention that I am only using one computer until I get it right, then I will do it on ALL computers.
Sorry to worry you like that Catweazle.

No, the computers are not all the same. Most of them are OLD, and I mean OLD... They were here when I was kinda old.
Also, What drivers am I supposed to look for on this website
AND
how can I tell what model motherboard I have so that I can get drivers for that

Also, I am working on getting my cloner to work. All I am getting is a boot error after the copy.

Anyone have any other ideas?

I was told to upgrade all of the old computers with 98 on them to 2K. Well, I am having a few problems.

One: when they want me to do this upgrade, they want me to do a new install, not just partition it.

Two: When I do this, I have been having some good luck, untill now.

Three: I am losing my default drivers left and right. Everytime I do a new install, it runs through the process and does NOT install the Video Driver properly, the Ethernet Controller is gone and the sound in non existant.

Four: All these drivers are supposed to be default

We need to have these drivers or we cannot get on the network, I-Net, or listen to sounds that we need to hear (some of the programs are for ESL and generally slow kids).

Anyone have any ideas asto how to fix this?

Interesting how people get their names...
Mine I just randomly came up with... sorta.
I was born and raised on DOS, well, when I first got the BSOD, I flipped. I was 10 at the time and working with my uncle at his house. From then on, my uncle called me Blue Screen, and he would just tease me about it. Then it just kinda faded and I needed a screen name. I knew that DOS was the cause of my problems (I would say ROOT, but I don't wanna go there.) and I liked the color blue, so it just went togehter. The number are my birth year.

I know no one wanted to know that.. but oh, well.

We have this application that is called ATHENA. This application is used to check books out to students/teachers and also we can check the status and avalibility of books, and check on the students (they might have fines).
Anyways, this program is located on once computer (server) and distributed to only a few other computers in the library. This server is called the Athena Server.
The Athena Server is also where I place patches, installations, and other various things that teachers need. It is the most accessable place.

There is a worm/virus floating around in said server: W32.Funlove.4099
There is a current version of Norton Anti-Virus (8.0) installed on all the computers. It is updated every week.
I have ran the removal utility several times, and it still is there. It is infecting the programs that I use/share with the teachers. So, what I am having to do now is place it somewhere else, that is not as accessable to teachers.

Anyone have any ideas as to how to remove this pest?

Can someone tell me about Hijack This.

I hear you guys talking about it all the time.

bluedos82 42 Posting Pro

what exactly is Hijack This?

bluedos82 42 Posting Pro

Well, the problem has branched out a little more than what I had posted. The I-net is not working and neither is the attendence program. I have switched out computers since then and the teacher is up and running. I have the computer in my posession and now I can not figure out what to do.

bluedos82 42 Posting Pro

OS: XP
Location: English Room

The computer will be just sitting there, on the network (We share a LAN for I-Net) and the computer will just randomly popup with something. I have looked at the running processes and I found MWSUM.EXE (aka STLOADER.EXE) and SLMSS.EXE. I know that these programs are in relation to spyware and this might be the cause of the problem. I have also looked in the registry to see if the file was there that it makes for itself, and it is not.
How do I get rid of this little problem?

bluedos82 42 Posting Pro

bluedos82 42 Posting Pro

OS : Win98SE
Location: Science room

The teacher first came to me and said that he had problems with the computer. He sas having o shut it down Once every hour (He timed it) and wanted me to fix it.
I looked into it and it was mostly spyware that was clogging up his system. Well, I used Ad-Aware 6 fro Lavasoft, and after the removal, it seemed like things had gotten worst.. but still better.
The computer was shutting down correctly, but not without an illegal Op. message. When the computer boots up, and he logs in, there is a Rundll32 illegal message waitng for him there.
And now there is not an Internet connection. There was one there, but not now. He connected to the Inter via network. he can get on the network just fine to do his grades, attendence and e-mail (Teachers can't live w/o e-mail).

Anyone have any ideas?
