She can cannot log onto the network, but she can get on the Internet that is filtered through the network.
She tries to put in her password, and it says that the domain will not validate her PW because it is invalid. So, she can not check her e-mail or log onto the teacher's folders.
Does this make sence?
Ideas?
I have to replace a computer in a computer lab. Which would you go with:
Computer 1:
Has Windows98
Belonged to another teacher who has programs on it
has no porblems getting on the netwoek or on on the Internet
Computer 2:
Has Windows98 SE
Missing drivers:
VNETSUP.VXD
VRREDIR.VXD
DFS.VXD
MSNP32.DLL
Has no problem connecting to network or Internet
It was a computer that I had laying about.
So, which one would you pick? The first or second?

Okay, okay... I was an idiot and didn't see that. Well, I did, I saw it AFTER the fact that I had posted.
Sorry for the trouble.
Well, I am back to work at the school and am in need of assistance.
Location: English Rm
OS: XP Business
When I turn on the comptuer, I get an error message: (Check the pic)
Any idea what this is a result of?
I did just get rid of a lot of spyware that was on the computer. Maybe this is something that was part of both an application and the spyware?
Ideas?
Bad cable,
wrong cable,
bad connecion,
bad router,
router turned off.
take your pick. This is a layer 1 (hardware) response.
Changed the Cable, Turned the Router on and off, Computer is on A network, just not mine. The other computers can see each other, I have tried the command IPCONFIG/RELEASE_ALL, but that did not work. I can ping the router not a problem, just not other computers.
Thanks for that piece of info.
Any other ideas?
well, the last post that I made was solved.
Here is something that I have not seen before:
I went to my aunt's house, like normal. While I was there, my brother used it and contracted a nasty case of spyware, malware, adware... and so forth.
I decided that when I got home that I would use my anti-virus to check it.
INSTEAD what I ended up doing was using my aunt's and she cleaned my computer for me.
When I got home, I put it back on my network, and it wouldn't get back on. I tried doing what I did earlier to release the IP address, but something struck me as interesting: When I typed in IPCONFIG, it said MEDIA STATUS.... DISCONNECTED, and then it had the IP address and subnet of 0.0.0.0
Any ideas as to what might be wrong?
Excellent, now if I could only remember how the tune goes....
GO here for a sample
It is track 3.
Figured it out:
Barry White: Never, Never gona give you up.
Thanx for the help!
DMR,
I am at my aunt's house right now. I will have to see if it works at my house. If it does, I thank you in advance.
If not, I will be posting in a few days.
Let me start over:
HOME: The network that I have only has 4 computers. They are all connected by a router. I am using DHCP for these computers. There was no problem when I left my house.
AUNT'S: I connect to their network via CAT5. They have the same set up that I do 4 computers connected by a router. Th only difference is that they have broadbad ISP that is connected to the network as well. And he uses DHCP for the IP addresses as well.
HOME: I came back home after my aunt's and hooked up my network back up the way that I had it and it would not work.
Clear up anything?
I guess I wasn't clear..
I have tried pinging the other computers, but there is nothing that is going through.
It is only one comptuer that is doing this. All the others can 'see' each other.
Ideas?
I have a home network that I set up myself. I go to my aunt's house, and they have a network.
I can hook up with their network, no problem.
BUt I just returned home and my network connection does not work. It is only the computer that I am on.
I did not change any settings when I went over there because the workgroup names are the same.
PLESASE HELP!
YUP! Tried to do the google thing.. no success
Does anyone know what the name of the song is:
Movie: Bruce Almighty
Part: When Jim Carrey is setting up the 'perfect' evening for him and Jennifer Aniston.
He asks 'Barry, help me out here.' and the CD plays. What is the name of that song?
I went to a website, and got all sorts of spyware. I got rid of most of it, but when I go to access my Media Player, it comes up with an install for something called CHILK CHAT (I think I spelled that right).
I have to stop the installation process for my computer to still function.
Plus I am still getting popups.
Ideas?
Long time no post.

My aunt's computer has been having prolems lately; Pop-ups and network issues.
Pop-ups: There have been a number of pop-ups that have been happening when she is opening Incredimail, going to Hotmail or doing anything else. It is also changing her home page. Right now she has Yahoo! Companion on just to block what she can. Any ideas on how to correct this?
Network Issues: She is on a home network and has been for quite a while. One day she did something to stop her son from messing with her music file. What she did not realize was that she did this to all of her shared folders and she can not undo it. My uncle has taken a look at it as well (he set up the network) and still can not figure out the problem. We know that the MAKE THIS FOLDER PRIVATE box is checked and greyed out. Any ideas?
Also the computer keeps giving a message : VIRTUAL MEMORY IS LOW.
HELP PLEASE!
Hello,
You could make a backup of the *.ini files, and then edit them, yes. If something blows up, go back to the backup and restore them. But I am wondering if there are other corruptions on that computer.
Christian
I don;t doubt it.
No, this is not an advertisement for the website, this is an errormessage that comes up everytime I boot up the open computer on my network.
(I have an extra to keep on the network) When it boots up it says that it is labled in the win.ini file, but it can not find it. Should I just go into the *.ini file and delete the reference to this annoyance, or should I just let it be?
OS: Win 2K
Computer boots like normal and then you log in.
It will stay on for about 5 mins after and then it shuts down automaticly.

The counsilor has been getting a few e-mails, all in German. She does not know anyone who would send her e-mails like this.
Does anyone know if this is connected to some kind of Mass Mailer Worm, or something like that?
(I ask because we got a German e-mail from someone in the inter-school mail, and she can't speak, nor spell for that matter, if German)
Could you clarify that please- exatly what numbers are we talking about?
When I go in to put in a number (for how big I want the partition), when I hit ENTER, the numbers go away and I have to put them in again. But everytime I press enter, they disappear.
Are you removing win98 or upgrading from98 to 2000 .you say delete win98 partition just how are you doing this !!
I am doing a FRESH install of Windows 2K. Here's How:
When I put the disk in, it will give me the option to delete the partition that I have (Hit D, Enter, L) which has Win98 on it. So I go and do that. No Prob. Then I tell it to install Win2K on the partition that I cleared up and it says 'EH! NO WAY!' and tells me that I need to go and make a partition. So I go and do that, but the numbers that I put in do not stay.
I am working on something right now to see if I can get this right.

I have a computer that is messed up!
We had to get a new one because this one was so bad. What happend was ablout every few hrs (mostly when getting on the Internet) a million popups would come up, one after the other and when you closed one, 10 more would pop up. Eventually the computer would be low on resources and then I would have to shut the computer down.
Anyone know what on Earth is causing this?
Still did not get if fixed, but thanx for the help.
I don't think that there is alot of cussing in here. I only curse on webpages when I am ephasizing something (it was a big @$$ fish! I Swear!)
That kind of thing. But then again, I curse all the time when I screw up.
Do the Hard disks on these PC's have enough capacity to hold the Operating System?
Yes they do, they all have 20GB Harddrives
Have you swapped the hard drive out? You didn't specifically say that, but that's all about all I can ask.
How old are these troublesome systems?
I just changed out the drive and it worked. BUt I still have 40+ other computers that have the same harddrive and I can't change all of them out.
That is what Have been doing. Sorry if it came out the wrong way.
I am upgrading from 98 --> 2K
I took a look at the list and the motherboard and the HD manufacturer and the drive are there.
It is just a matter of the HD and the MB working together.
OK... new problem. I got the last one fixed.
This is weird. When the setup starts, I put in the key code, I let it run and do its thing. When it starts to install things like the Network componets and then a few more things (it stops on the DTC(don't remember what tha tstands for) .. the screen goes black, it goes back to the statistics screen (the black screen that shows what your processor, ect.) and then reboots all over and never finished the installation.
Any ideas?
Long time, no post.
Anyways, I have had some luck with updating some of the computers in the school from 98 --> 2K, but lately there has been a MAJOR problem.
There are some computers that I run the install, delete the partition that has 98 on it. When I go to install 2000 on it, it says that I need to create a partition. Well, I go to create that partition, and I the number that I put in will not hold.
I have talked with my fellow techies up here and they said that it has something to do with the fact that the motherboard is an ASUS CUSI and the hard drive is made by WESTERN DIGITAL.
Has anyone else ran into this problem?
Loyalty and faith do not have to be together. I experimented with several religions before I decided on one (Actually, I am kinda leaning back towards buddism again).
remember:
Hard work pays off in the future, Lazyness pays off now.
Let me see...
DB(Z)(GT)
Cowboy bebop (LOVED the movie over all)
Excel Saga (LMAO!)
Teen Titans (I dunno if that counts...)
Trigun
Inuyasha
Furry Curry (Fooly Cooly- It was only on for a few eposides, but still the coolest)
And many many other that I can not remember at the member
hahahaha --> Aye Carumba!
sissy --> first words
I will be 80 yrs old and still want to play Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts and watch anime!
Just remember cybergirl:
Growing old is manditory, growing up is optional
I am upgrading from 98 to 2K. I put the disk in and it runs.
When I go to delete the partition that has the old 98, I can not create another partition for the Win2K nor can I go in and manually create it.
Ideas?
