This morning my high speed was so slow that my laptop jammed up. I coud not unfreeze the windows and resorted to holding down the Power Button for 4 seconds until the entire system shut off.

When I came back 45 minutes later to do a fresh boot I got a screen telling me that the system was being scanned. Then it said a file had been found (3401 "I think was the number") and was being repaired. When that finished and the system tried booting up it couldn't.

The computer kept repeatedly trying to reboot. It would throw up a blue screen error for a second but I couldn't read it. Finally I read about using the F8 key to disable the automatice reboot.

Blue screen error says: Unmountable_Boot_Volume (0x000000ED).

Does anyone know how to solve this problem? I keep googling and reading various things but nothing is making sense. I do have the 5 hp quickstore system recovery cds. Do I use these and if so HOW? I put the first disk in the CD/DVD drive but the computer wouldn't read it.

I'm desperate, its Friday night, my LIFE is on my laptop and I desperately need to have access to all my files.

Any help will be DEEPLY appreciated! Ava

Do you have the latest drivers for the card?

I know this may sound stupid but which of those things listed about in my original thread do I look for updated drivers for. And....do I just type in the names +download to search search for newer drivers?

Thanks..

I have an hp pavilion ze5500 that was upgraded to a ze5580. It has a built in wifi card. I purchased this computer from a neighbor who bought it but rarely used it. I bought it for is wifi capabilites. It has an internal wifi card.

I bought it, toddled off to the nearest open access network (hotspot) but couldn't access the network even though seller never had any problem with accessing a network when she checked into various hotels.

I eventually got the wifi card to grab the signal at our local library. But I still can't connect to other hotspots in my area.

A) at one location it will show that I'm connected but I can't access any pages.

B) at another location the computer can't even connect to the signal.

C) up until two days ago, the wifi card was working perfectly in the library but now my computer can't even show that it is recognizing the library's signal. But it will show its picking up the closed access signal of the elementary school right next door to the library.

This card is all over the map and I can't figure out what its causing the problem. About the time the card stopped working in the library I'd downloaded and installed Microsoft's SP3 so I could run Jing on my computer. Could the SP3 be causing a problem with the library's signal?

I don't know if this is a config …

Hi, last night while watching a Camtasia presentation online my computer crashed and a blue screen error was thrown up on the screen.

Since then sometimes I can boot successfully, just as many times I can't. Also when I click on a program or a file there is hang time...sometimes as much as a minute before the program or file opens for me. Sometimes the screen freezes competely.

I just downloaded and ran Analysis Diagnositc for Windows XP and it returned this warning: THE SYSTEM RESTORE HELPER returned a warning code hr=0x6.

Does anybody know what this code means? Thanks...

Hello-last night I was on the internet watching a Camtasia presentation when suddenly my laptop crashed and threw up a blue screen with lots of white text. At the top it said "kernal data inpage error". And eventually the computer threw itself into reboot.

The loading of Windows XP was slow, not fully successful. So for the next two hours I kept rebooting. Sometimes I would get an error message along the line of "Microsoft Windows Error Signature" followed by BC code:7a BCP1: Co3DD9E8 BCP2:....... so on and so forth.

Another periodic message would be "System has recovered from serious error".

Eventually I thought I'd worked out the glitch in the system and finally fell asleep at 4:30am hoping and wanting to believe my laptop was alright. But this morning while online, the computer did the same thing.

My questions are as follows:

1- Does anybody know what caused this or what this is?
2- I did a System Restore using the Restore Wizard and reset the system to Oct. 31, 2008. But I still am having the same problems.
3- Should I do a RESTORING YOUR ORIGINAL SOFTWARE using the five restore CDs that came with the laptop?

If that is recommended, the instructions say to turn on the computer then when the curser is blinking against a black screen before the Windows XP logo comes up that I am to hit one of the F keys to access the setup …

I just purchased an HP laptop with wireless card. I live in the country where presently all I have available to me is dial up. I got this laptop so I can drive to the nearest public library and access their free wireless.

I can connect to the free wi fi network but I can't access the internet. After I'm connected I open Internet Explorer and find I'm not on the internet.

When I ask the librarian for the SSID and password to manually plug in, I'm told they have no such thing. They tell me that other people just walk in, open up thier laptops, connect to the wi fi network and start surfing the internet.

I can't figure out what the problem is. I've never done wireless before. Could it be a firewall configuration issue?

Any help will be greatly, IMMENSELY, deeply appreciated.
Thank you in advance, Ava

My D drive is full. There's not even enough space left to defragment. I have 156KB free. My computer is SLOWER than molasses. I can't figure out what is tying up all the space. I don't have an over abundance of programs loaded. How can I see what's on D drive? How do I know what is safe to delete? Thank you in advance to anyone who can help...Ava
