once you start digging in bureaucracies for misplaced and otherwise lost data that noone noticed lost because it was burried in paperwork you'll always find some, usually find a lot.
even point and shoot cameras have viewfinders...
They may be small, but that's what you pay for.
Using the screen to compose your photos at arm's length (which is the usual modus operandi I notice people use) leads to terrible pictures.
Poor composition, blurry from camera shake, etc. etc.
So Gordon Brown has never worked a day outside politics, has no experience in how the real world works, has only ever lived off copious government handouts awarded politicians.
I'd call that a person who's utterly out of touch with reality ;)
ignore "addy999", it's a useless bot (or looks like one) that just pulls random phrases out of the forum and turns them into messages.
Just search for terms like "Delphi DirectX" or "Delphi OpenGL" and you should end up with a flood of resources.
There are some "members" popping up all over the site who do nothing but copy entire posts from elsewhere.
In this case it was a message from the same thread, making it blatantly obvious, but more often it's something completely unrelated from somewhere else entirely.
I don't know whether these are bots or not, but they sure behave like bots.
It's Scotland's revenge for centuries of English tyranny...
African American is a stupid word, as that could include white africans, living in america
I know one white guy who emigrated from South Africa to the US and consistently calls himself African American.
The usual response is disbelief by wide eyed kids, sometimes followed by accusations of racism for daring to call himself that when he's not black...
So far he's failed to get any benefits reserved for "African Americans" on the basis that he's white. How's that for discrimination?
I've advocated mass suicide to greenies for years. So far there have been no takers, sadly.
This however is a good sign, at least they're trying to save the world from themselves by making sure there's no offspring they can pass their nutty ideas on to ;)
You don't need the screen to use the camera (if it's a halfway decent camera).
In fact using a camera screen for things other than reviewing pictures after you make them is to be discouraged.
OK. You chose an assignment which has little to do with software and a lot with hardware.
At most you can try to simulate hand movement during the typing action, thus trying to find a layout that minimises such movement for commonly used phrases and words (keeping in mind that phones are marketed worldwide and thus you will need to ideally keep many languages into account).
how much you need all depends on what applications you run :)
XP may not allocate more than 2GB per process, but if you have an application that wants that much having more than 2GB can help (as XP itself and everything running in it can take 1GB or more all by itself).
In both cases, define "best" :)
If you mean "fastest", "most powerful", it's easy: a Core 2 Quad QX6850. Will cost you over a thousand dollars though.
For just over a quarter of that, you have a Core 2 Quad Q6600.
Bit slower, but for the money you can replace it with a faster one twice when higher spec CPUs drop in price and still spend less money in total.
It is however less overclockable. But then Intel CPUs are sold at close to their optimum clockspeed, so there's less overclocking them anyway than with AMDs.
Intel does factory tests of each manufactured CPU, and sells it at its peak performance, so a batch of (in theory) 2.4GHz CPUs can contain both 2.2, 2.4, and 2.6 GHz CPUs with the majority being 2.4.
The ultimate motherboard for Socket 775 CPUs is likely the Asus Striker Extreme.
There are of course others, like the P5N32-E SLI Plus.
I just stick with stock Kingston RAM, but then I don't overclock anything.
Cheap(ish), stable, and performs reasonably well.
This sounds like the CPU is not recognised by the motherboard, but it does detect there's a CPU there.
If it's a new CPU it likely means it's too new for the motherboard (but maybe flashing the BIOS will solve it), if it's an old machine the CPU may be damaged and need replacement (which may also mean replacing the motherboard if you can't find a CPU that fits it and is recognised by it).
yes, the power supply is supposed to do the job of taking the existing power anywhere in the world and converting it to something the laptop needs.
At most there may be different ones for 110 and 240V, but most PSUs can handle both (and all you need is a different plug depending on country).
The different output power is a bit weird, but shouldn't pose a problem either if the machine is properly designed.
any properly designed laptop (or indeed any electrical device) will not draw more power than it needs even if more is available.
When in doubt, call Dell Europe's technical support (you'll find the numbers on the Dell website for the country you're in, or try Dell UK if that site is not available in English).
ever noticed that 90% of the time the word is used it's used by blacks among themselves?
In fact the word "nigger" is a deliberate misspelling of the word "negro" which is in line with black American gang lingo, in many languages there is no difference between the two (or rather, the word "nigger" doesn't exist as such and everyone uses the equivalent of "negro" whenever either term would be used.
You shouldn't be insulted by a single word anyway, ever. Only be insulted by its use in specific contexts.
Apparently American blacks are now feeling insulted by the word "black", irrespective of when it's used.
If that kind of thing goes on much longer it'll soon be a hate crime to drive a black car or wear black clothes (the latter already makes you suspicious of course because the kids who shot up that school in Columbine wore black, therefore all people wearing black are potential mass murderers).
I know. It's also known to revert corrections back to a state where the article is in error though.
I've pretty much given up trying to correct things for that reason if the correction is more than a single word.
LOL. Spoken like a true idiot who doesn't know what he's talking about (just like all your other posts).
yup, you're hopefully (else it could be worse) the worst case scenario.
Which has one advantage. Compared with your status as an island we can just dump everyone we don't like there, close the borders, and be rid of every PC nutter :)
PC is the politically correct term for "politically correct" ;)
Those nutters who say you can't call people a nutter because it's degrading to nuts.
sell that tapwater of yours to California healthnuts as "real wellwater, rich in minerals" for $5 per quart.
You'll make a lot of money :)
I won't. I won't forget the hungry living next door, the unemployed people with kids who can't afford to buy food from the meager social security they get.
I'll donate something to people helping them, not some farmer in the Sudan who left his farm to pillage and murder and now complains that he's got no food.
Duly noticed! I am running scared now!!!!
you do seem rather blue...
no, they're not in "the spirit".
They're in it for the money. The only "free food" they donate is bought from a portion of their corporate profits.
They are in that of course no different from groups like the Red Cross, Greenpeace, Oxfam, and all the other Big Charity groups which are all run like major corporations and make massive profits.
If you want to donate something look for small local charities.
who do you think? It's lardmeister, the guy's on a personal vendetta against me after I deleted a post in which he called me a Nazi and a personal friend of Heinrich Himmler...
i mean white bread ;)
yah yah, that's what they all say :P
And hadn't you heard that white bread is considered a sign of canibalism (in specific context)?
There have been complaints that the Catholic eucharist incites and glorifies canibalism by equating the eating of the bread and drinking of the wine with the consumption of the body of Christ.
It's been used (unsussessfully so far) by the PC crowd as an argument to ban Christian religious practice.
how the hell can that be racist, if thats racist then eating black pudding must be racist, as must be white brad, english breakfast, french toast ,ebelgian waffles
turkey doesnt even come from turkey i dont think
you are an idiot
I'm no idiot, the terminally PC people are...
And yes, they've tried to ban black foodstuff.
Only last year a kind of candy here that's basically whipped cream in a layer of black chocolate was heavily criticised.
The stuff, called (rough translation) niggerkiss since its inception over a century ago without any complaints from anyone, was suddenly called "racist". The manufacturer was threatened with lawsuits and boycots of their entire product line unless they changed the name to something non-racist.
Mind no blacks were involved. These were white people thinking (or rather claiming they thought) they were doing it to help blacks.
The entire country thought it pathetic. The entire country thought it even more pathetic when the manufacturer caved in and changed the name of the product to please a few idiots.
Where the existing name had been the cause of a few people threatening legal action and a boycot, the changed name caused people to actually boycot the product to protest the name change...
The other things you mention can't be racist according to the PC crowd because they're about white things, and everyone knows you can say anything you want about those unless it's positive.
and typewriter keyboards ironically were standardised on a design that slows people down when typing in order to avoid technical problems in the construction of mechanical typewriters.
Initially every typewriter manufacturer had their own keyboard layout. This caused massive confusion among users so they called for standardisation.
Many of those layouts were designed to give a speed advantage to users, but at a price: the metal arms with the letters would often get tangled up during typing when specific keys were typed in rapid sequence (due to their relative positions).
The current layout was decided upon in a study which designed the layout in such a way that keys people need together frequently are positioned such that they'll never cross each others' arcs when used from a mechanical typewriter, while at the same time slowing typing down by increasing the distance the fingers have to travel between letters to make entanglement of the mechanics of the typewriter even less likely.
After a hundred years or more of this layout, everyone has it in their fingers (no pun intended) and changing it is very hard.
There are experiments but they're no more than niche markets, just as they weren't successful in the typewriter era when most of those alternative layouts were thought up (though not all, there are some layouts people have thought up that are impossible with a mechanical structure).
just extrapolating from the nonsense brainfarts of the PC crowd, you'd get that you're cooking a turkey which is an insult to Turks who come from Turkey and therefore racist.
You've been hit by the automatic resizing of Swing components ;)
When you just add a panel somewhere its default size is the default size of the region you add it to, which in a GridLayout is defined by what's in it.
So if you don't put anything on the panel it will default to size 0x0 pixels.
Your application worked fine (probably), you just didn't see anything because the behaviour you programmed created 4 panels that each had size 0x0.
To see the panels, you need to make it so they will be forced to a specific size, and give them a raised edge (for example).
Your idea of putting buttons on them will also work, if the idea is just to show the structure of the design quickly.
Of course you won't actually SEE the panels at all, you'll see the buttons located on them.
they shouldn't have been able to get one before... Or doesn't an application for a driver's license require the person to be a legal resident anymore in most of the US?
Here you need to present either an expiring (but not expired) local license, an expiring (but not expired) foreign license and residence permit, or a chit from the exam board (and you can only register for the driving test if you can hand over a residence permit or show a passport or other paper proving you're a legal resident).
Happy Turkey Day :)
except for the turkeys of course :)
btw, isn't it racist to call that bird a turkey these days?
no, we're not going to give you "the codes". It's your job to do your own homework.
You do get a B for honesty though, at least you admit it's homwwork and you don't intend to do it yourself.
Hint: use GridLayout
Hint: panels can contain other components and have a layoutmanager
Take those 2, think about how to use that knowledge in combination, and you should be able to figure things out.
well, new keyboards are constantly being tried for applicability.
For example Nokia fielded (and I think still sells) several phones where the numeric keys are situated in a circle around a central empty space.
This in theory makes it easier to use, faster to type. In practice it's confusing as it's non-standard (which is the problem with all innovative layouts of course), and takes up valuable space, thus making the phone larger than it could be for the same size screen and keys.
worst weatherman I ever noticed was one who said it was snowing in the entire country, when his own chart showed over half the country having clear skies...
in fact most cases are poorly designed... And the most expensive ones aren't necessarilly the best (though in general better than the cheap ones).
Antec look great and are well engineered but are somewhat cramped inside.
no temper tantrum, just a factual accounting of the events surrounding NOLA around the time Katrina hit (which was, if you look at hurricanes like people, an illegal immigrant of sorts).
Thus clarifying ADs post...
And don't worry. If there's reason to delete your posts you'll notice. But you'll also have noticed I don't delete anything that's not in violation of site rules (and even then I'm not as strict as I could be), like personal attacks on people and inciting illegal activity.
These kind of things only happen in England. In the USA we have privacy laws in place to prevent those things from happening.
UK privacy laws are (at least on paper) stricter than those in the US.
Of course there's a massive hole in those laws (as in all of Europe) that means they don't apply to the government but that's not the problem here.
The problem is that human beings make mistakes.
The CDs were backups that someone lost. Unless and until they're found there's a serious risk of exposing that information.
That's a procedural error, and a serious one. Thus the procedure failed, something against which no procedure or law can protect you.
In fact the more procedures you have and the more complicated they are the greater the chance they'll fail.
correct. The only posts I've deleted here were 2 posts where bumsfeld and lardmeister were calling me a Nazi.
That's a clear violation of the rules, as well as being a blatant lie.
My grandfather fought the Nazis in May 1940 and was later send as a slave labourer to Germany. He survived, he was one of the lucky ones.
If I were censoring you kids and removing everything I don't agree with there'd be a lot more posts gone (in fact pretty much everything you've written in this forum)...
int indice = 0;
System.out.println("\nAge Range from 20 to 29\n");
for (String x: arreglo) { System.out.println(++indice + "." + x); }
And similarly for the other loops.
Turn that into a method and call it several times instead of writing it out several times.
Wikipedia is wrong. A JDK is a full SDK, so it's an implementation of the concept of
"SDK" rather than a subset of it.
Ok. I was not aware of that. Thank You!
it's not used much. It's been available for like 4 years now, I use Java 1.5 professionally on a daily basis, and I've never encountered it outside web articles listing the new features of 1.5.
Even most books dealing specifically with 1.5 (and were written after it hit the street) don't so much as mention it.
One of the less successful things Sun did to Java before 1.6.
This is not a programming problem at all. It's a user interface design problem, and if you have to build a prototype an electronics problem (though I guess you could build a simulator for it first as a proof of concept).
Solve it using pencil and paper, later making nice glossy pictures of it for your presentation in some graphics software like Photoshop.
no. Nowhere does it say it has to be during the same execution run of the block ;)
for (int i=0; i<2; i++) {
if (i == 0) {
// do something
} else {
// do something else
}
}
and with a leftist mayor and governor who thought only about their own next election results and wallets and didn't want to have people evacuate when there was maybe no need to, it was a disaster waiting to happen.
The governor of Louisiana denied FEMA and other federal agencies entry into the state, preventing them from helping until it was too late. In the end it took a presidential decree to get the federal agencies the authority they needed to take charge.
The mayor of New Orleans denied even the Red Cross entry into the city, because he didn't want people to see the chaos and suffering his refusal to evacuate in time had caused.
He preferred to have people die in that stadium rather than have it known what was happening there (which would cost him votes).
And afterwards he blames Bush for not acting more promptly...
Of course had the federal government acted more promptly and forced their way into the city against the opposition of the mayor as soon as it became apparent the mayor was not going to heed the warnings that evacuation was needed he'd have blamed Bush for that, for discriminating against him because he's black and abusing federal power.
make up your own questions instead of copying them from other websites, idiot.
get lost. You (or was that someone else) was told this already just a few days ago.
try and see for yourself.
You're annoying with your flooding of this place with stupid "questions" that show only that you have no clue whatsoever about anything.
I've a feeling you're not creating anything but are just copying randomly selected questions from some websites here in order to make trouble.
Start making some sense or get lost.
