Re: The problem is that you are playing Russian Roulette with the duplicate content filters - best to use a 301 redirect on 2 of the domain names, or simply park them on the other domain.
Re: I've been testing this on a new install, but for some reason I have the simple issue of "forumdisplay" is showing as the normal dynamic link, rather than the HTML form. It's probably a small mistake, but if there are any pointers to which part of the instructions I possibly …
Re: Don't forget that Google now allows use of "channels". :D
Re: vBulletin's are simply more powerful - I was pretty shocked when I saw how little is actually present in the admin panel of phpbb. There's nothing inherently wrong with phpbb - but you simply get a higher quality product with vBulletin. More secure, too.
Re: Meta-tags are not of great concern nowadays for SEO purposes. HOWEVER, on saying that, there is still some real value to their use for Inktomi-based systems, such as MSN and Yahoo. If you want to see whether any search engine uses meta-tags for direct ranking purposes, then you can test …
Re: vBulletin3 is exceptionally good for SEO purposes. Good choice, cscgal. :)
Re: Too many people focus on PageRank - what you should really be focusing on is sales and conversions. I've seen for myself traffic go down when PR went up, and traffic go up when PR went down. Go figure.
Re: templatemonster is pretty good for a range of pretty templates - but you really need to know how to rip into the code. It's generally not very good and requiers some improvement. But if pretty is all you want it's fine. :)
I have a client site written in asp, and I need to 301 redirect some referer URLs to the homepage URL. I know how to do this on a linux server, but am somewhat lost on Windows. Any suggestions as to how to do it much appreciated. ![]()
Hi there - I need to redirect a site built in .php to a site built in .asp Trouble is, that's simply going to create lots of 404's which aren't going to help anyone. I'd like to be able to provide 404 headers and redirect to a specific page. How …
Re:
Is SEO a big part of how you do business online? If so, stop! The number one piece of advice I could give anyone is to design and develop your websites for your target audience - for your users - instead of for the search engines. In fact, doing so …
Re: If it's not a silly question, how would the the file "external.php" need to be modded, so that RSS feed of the forums would show the HTML threads, rather than the dynamic php URLs?
Re: I had problems and found that BT charge 50p/min support. I took the router back to PC World and exchanged it for a Belkin.
Re: Google doesn't give meta-tags any weight in themselves. Proof: http://www.seo-lab.com/seo-lab-tests/meta-tags/ HOWEVER, that doesn't mean to say that Google doesn't reference meta-tags for ranking purposes - which is an old Inktomi tactic and not necessarily exclusive. Caol is quite right about generic meta-tags as well - forum threads can do very …
I'm finally looking to move a project onto my very first dedicated server. However, I'm looking to use mod_rewrite a few times, not least with csgal's excellent mod_rewrite for vBulletin. My problem is that I've found is that some servers have PHP installed to run from CGI, and in this …
Re: www.wordtracker.com will give results for certain search engines. However, the figures you end up with are to be taken acording to their relative, rather than absolute values. Meaning that if you are looking at two similar terms, and one shows as having 1000 searches, and the other as 10, those …
Re: Google toolbar has a "block/allow popups" feature. So you can toggle between them as required, or whatever as whenever. :)
Re: There was actually another backlink update a few days ago, but the general report is that the backlinks are all screwy. Personally I'm not bothered - I'm personally about to uninstall the Google Toolbar and install Alexa instead. :)
Re: Heh, PR is not so big an issue as visitor numbers and adsense clickthrus. :) Anyway, as a thanks for setting up the mod_rewrite tutorial for vB3 I'll send some links your way. Anchot-text rich rather than high PR though, but should still have use. :)
Re: In short, if you are using different anchor text in the link, then it is actually a good idea, if you are targeting that anchor text as part of your keywords. PR itself - wet raspberry to that. If you find you need to use multiple links to the same …
Re: PR has certainly been a marketing score for Google, but as mentioned after the Florida update, Google may well be tryig to wean themselves off it for ranking purposes - Stansted Uni actually holds the patent for that, not Google, and it could only make shareholders nervous to think if …
Re: vbulletin 3 is search engine spiderable out of the box - Invision Power Boards are supposed to be, but from what I've seen spiders will only ever index a fraction of the 1.2 and prior releases. Apparently, that issue is being addressed in the current beta version (is it IPB …
Re: Use of keyworded titles is definitely a good idea - but be very careful not to contrive the titles too much, as you need the human users to be able to navigate fine. Ultimately, a lot of traffic generated is going to be generated by secondary keywords - how all …
Re: Google position on selling PR is pretty remarkable - considering that Google have effectively told the webmastering world that their websites have been assigned an arbitrary and very public value - but that these websites must never reference that value for marketing purposes!! Sort of like 5 star hotels not …
Re: PR is interesting, but I wouldn't at all give it the repsect it used to have. I just lost PR 6 to 5 on a couple of my big sites - yet their rankings for primary keywords is up and so is traffic by 30%. If PR was the God …
Re: You're really going to need to give more information for any really useful help to be forthcoming. Also, ask your friends what they may have changed on your machine - wouldn't be surprised is someone tweaked something small that you didn't know about.
Re: PHP includes are absolutely superb - once I learned about them I use them everywhere. :) |
