Hey, people!
Having a life-crisis here -- although I have started migrating slowly towards "cloud computing", most of my life is still stored on my PC.
Today, when I tried to log on I got the dreaded "Cannot load User Profile" message... when I am able to log on as a "guest" none of my files can be accessed. I tried to consult all sorts of help pages, but cannot decode any of the information.
Is there: a) anything that can be done to fix this? b) anything that I can do? c) do I need to take my poor old PC to some sort and pro and get this repaired them?
Many thanks for indulging me with my hysterical fit.... I go away for three months now that the academic year is over, and I am in crisis!
Help! I am trying to just start a thread asking for help with a Windows VISTA crisis, and cannot figure out how to do it!
Can someone help me please???
My work-horse of a laptop pulls this weird trick on me now.
I am happily working away, and then the thing just suddenly shuts down. I cannot find a pattern to this weird behavior. All seems OK and then... it just cuts off on me.
Any tips on anything I can do to salvage the situation ... or... should I be in the market for a new laptop. (BTW: I use the thing constantly!)
Thanks so much, everyone!
Richard
Hi, I have seen similar threads on this forum, but generally they seem to have slightly different situations. My two-year old Dell XPS M1210 is a work-horse of a machine and generally gives me no hardware-related issues. But within the past few weeks, it has developed this nasty of habit of just shutting down on me... going dead blank. It restarts with no problem immediately thereafter... gives me no warnings or tell-tale signs that shutdown is immiment...
Is this an overheat situation? If so, is there something that I should be doing to resolve it. I generally run it on A/C power with the battery removed... (not sure if that is relevant), and am writing from Bangkok Thailand right now... (also not sure if that is relevant).
Thanks!

Hi... I am a "brand new-bie" here, so please be kind if this is a dumb question.
Here is the situation: I have a DELL Laptop XPS M1210, running Windows VISTA. I live in a building which is networked into a University high speed network via Ethernet connections... In order to use both a desktop and a laptop, I have installed a router and all is great. But I want to stop connecting wirelessly and instead plug my laptop directly into the network via a Ethernet cable.
BUT: my laptop insists on searching for a wireless network and will not allow me to connect directly to the University network.
Is there anything I can do to disable the search for available wireless signals on my laptop?
Thanks, really!
