I'm not near good enough to open the source of software and fix, change, or even understand anything. I can write very simple bash, python, php, c & c++ programs. php is the only thing I can realistically develop to any usability, and even then it's pretty minimal.
No ntfs, OS is ext4 and micro sd is fat32.
I fixed it but I still don't understand what was happening. Something really weird was going on with the music file that seems to have been causing this in some way. I had the song 'Tie Me Kangaroo down sport by Rolf Harris, album The Hits of Pop & Doo Wop, Vol. 5' downloaded to my music library, I got the song from Amazon's digital music store. Of my two directories that luckybackup/rsync kept getting mixed up were 'Various Artists & Various artists' the kangaroo song was the only song that was physically in the lowercase directory but showed in uppercase as two identical files on my desktop music player (Banshee). When I would right click on each of the two copies and click 'open in folder' one would be in the uppercase directory (Various Artists) and the other would be in the lowercase directory (Various artists), when when I would right click on the one in the lowercase directory and delete the file it would delete both copies? I have no idea! I re-download the song from amazon and this time I edited the meta data and changed the Artists field …
I reformatted the sd card and ry-synced everything again, same problem. I also manually copied the files from my library to the sd card and it worked fine, go figure. Re-synced again with luckybackup and delete all the files on the destination again :(.
P.S. Why is the post marked 'Featured'?
My system didn't recognise iocharset or the shortname options. I have now ran this command on my system ->

Now the tail end of this command looks like this.

Yes it's mounted, otherwise I wouldn't be able to navigate to the SD card and list it's contents and luckBackup wouldn't even let me run the sync if it's wasn't. And everything should be rwx but just to me sure I just ran chmod -R +rwx ~/media/music/*
. Check this out, after running that command I seen the following and the end of my luckybackup log.

I've been using rsync and or luckybackup for a while now to sync my desktop's music library to my micro sd card for my digital music player. Today I noticed that my music player wasn't showing one of my albums so I've started investigating and I've found that it's not the music player but is more likely to be rsync, but I don't understand how or why. After syncing I check the sd card manually and sure enough this album is still not beeing synced.
On my computer all of my music is stored at /home/me/media/music/*
inside of this last music directory there are two various artists directories, one is uppercase and one is lower case for the word artists. Variouse Artists & Variouse artists. The weird thing is my sd card is only getting the contents of the 'Various artists' directory that's on my desktop but on my sd card the directory is called 'Various Artists' and there is not 'Various artists' directory listed at all on my sd card. So I'm only getting one of the two copies on my sync and it's filled with the contents that the other one is filled with on my computer. In this case I used luckbackup but it uses rysnc, I'll past the code below. Any ideas? Thanks. Oh, and sd card is fat32.
rsync -h --progress --stats -r -t --modify-window=1 --delete-after --delete-excluded --exclude=**/lost+found*/ --exclude=**/*Trash*/ --exclude=**/*trash*/ /home/me/media/music/ /media/me/MEDIA-SD/

I recently built a crypto currency miner and I'm using Linux Mint as my OS for the miner. I manually turn on the miner by navigating to ~/Desktop/claymore and running ./start_only_eth.bash and my miner starts mining. So i palced this line ./home/ethereum/Desktop/claymore/start_only_eth.bash
in the /etc/init.d/rc.local file but I don't think it's running. When I type ps or ps -aux | grep /home
neither ps command shows that my miner is running. What am I doing wrong with my auto startup stript?
Also, how can I setup my miner so that the computer will always be on? Meaning, if the power goes off and is restored it will turn itself back on as long as there is power without me having to maunally push the button? Thanks all.
In an angry keyboard rant I hit Ctrl Alt Delete, nothing, Ctrl Alt F2, nothing, Ctrl Alt F1 boom, there was my installation screen hiding. Go figure? Thanks.
Just tried a Debian iso image instead of an Xubuntu image and I had a similar problem. I got an erro while while it was creating the partitions. It said something about how that the partition had been created but that the Kernal didn't know about it and that I should reboot before making any changes. The it asked if I wanted to Cancel or Ignore, I chose ignore and the partition creation didn't give me any more errors but it progress bar stopped in one spot and would not move any further.
3rd try
I just tried with another live usb and a whole new SSD and now when I boot up the computer a blue screen that says "Xubuntu" comes up and just when I think it's about to start the installation process the screen goes black and I see the following messages in white on the screen.
[ *** ] A start job is running for Ubuntu live CD installer ($COUNTER MIN SEC / no limit)
[ OK ] Started Network Manager Script Dispatcher Service.
Any ideas, please help. Thanks.
I haven't check the chucksum but I have used several different images so I'M doubting that it's a corrupt iso file. Both images that I'v treid were from the Ubuntu website. Also, there is no dvd or cd drive.
A while back I built a computer with an Asus motherboard, a SSD, and two milk creates for a cheap case, and I had Xubuntu installed on it. I have tried to install Xubuntu on it again several times today but it always fails to create the partitions. I keep getting an error -> 'Creation in partitoin # x (0,0,0) failed' or something like that. Then after this happens the computer will not even boot back into the live USB Ubuntu again or even the BIOS, all I get there after is a black screen with a blinking white cursor at the top left of the screen. If I want to boot the computer back into Xubuntu again I have to write a new usb image, that thumb drive on which the installation fails will not work again. Also I've tried two different Xubuntu images so I doubt that it's a currupt image file. Any ideas? Thanks.
I figured it out, the CD player was alphabetically using the file names, how inefficient for an mp3 CD player! All the meta tag editing for nothing and how I have to rename all the files before buring an mp3 CD.
I have been downloading old kid's readio stories and trying to burn them onto mp3 CDs for my daughter. The problem is that when she plays the CDs on the mp3 CD player in her room the tracks are not in order. I have edited the meta-data and labeld every track with the same artist and album as well as made sure that the CD # of # fields were populated. Any ideas on what could be causing this and or how I might be able to fix the problem?
One more question, why does my thread have a 'sponsored' logo beside it?
I contacted Vizio and they said that there is not setting to switch back and forth between component and composite. They said that the ports were interchangeable between component and composite wires and everything should work fine. So I guess I'm SOL. I tried a red, white, yellow to hdmi but that didn't work either. :(
Thanks for your help.
I recently purchased a new Vizio 55" LED 1080p tv but I'm having trouble connection my Nintendo 64 to it. The red & white audio cable are working fine and I'm getting all of the audio but there is not yellow port on my new tv for the N64's yellow wire. The tv does have a green and blue port and when I connect the N64's yellow wire into the tv's green port the images shows up but it's black and white and scrolling upward. On my last tv this red, white, & yellow N64 wires into red, white, green tv ports worked fine, it was also a 1080p just not LED. Any ideas? I thought I might try this device out as a solution. Does anyone know if it would work? -> http://a.co/cwOdJ3r
I just followed the exact same steps from the website again only in a new directory and now everything is working fine. Go figure. Thanks Grib.

I don't think I bothered to try and install python or pip to the virtual environment but thought I would just use my system wide python and pip for that and instead focust on just installing django localy to the venv. But even when I tried to install python and pip localy to the venv to see if that was the problem this is what I got.

I'm using the line above to try and make the playlists that I export from Banshee compatible with my digital music player. When I run the sed portion of this script I'm trying to remove the portion of the path up to where the music directories actually start. I jus want the .m3u file to be a list of lines containing Artists/Album/Title.flac
But when I run this script it's removing all of the forward slashes /, not just the beginning ../
Can anyone tell me why it's removing all of the forward slashes and what I might be able to do about it? Thanks.
I haven't seen this problem before in vim, and since I'm use to being able to backspace in vim it's hard for me not to see it as bug or problem that needs to be fixed.

I'm looking for a way to encrypt some of my external HDDs. I was looking this option over -> https://www.howtoforge.com/tutorial/encrypt-your-data-with-encfs-on-ubuntu/ but I'm not sure how well this would work. I read this on the top portion of the site -> "It is a pass-through filesystem, not an encrypted block device, which means it is created on top of an existing filesystem." What exactly does that mean. I also noticed that the encfs program (encfs) mounts to the encrypted/decrypted directories and since I will be having to mount an external HDD it looks to me like I would have a standard mount to the external HDD to my encrypted direcotry and then another mount from encfs to the same directory. Will that even work? Or, does anyone of any other suugestions or recomendations? Thanks.
I just purchased an 240 GB SSD for my older Toshiba Satellite. I would rather not go through trying to save the files from the HDD and install the Linux Mint Debian Edition and then move all the files back, I would like to just be able to clone the HDD to the SSD. Can anyone give me any direction on that? Thanks.
ALso, I'd like to maybe get some new memory for the laptop and if possible maybe a CPU as well but I know that's less likely. Here's my laptop -> https://www.cnet.com/products/toshiba-satellite-l355d/specs/ After looking over the specs it looks like it only has 3 GB of RAM and it can only have a max of 4 GB. I found this product on amazon, can anyone tell me if this would work? "KOMPUTERBAY 2GB (2x1GB) DDR SODIMM (200 pin) 333Mhz DDR333 PC2700 LAPTOP MEMORY" or maybe two of these "Crucial 2GB Single DDR2 800MHz (PC2-6400) CL6 SODIMM 200-Pin Notebook Memory Module CT25664AC800". Also, is the CPU replaceable and if so what would be a little better and compatible? Thanks.
Thanks for your help.
I havent putchased a lot of hardware for a laptop and I just want to make sure that I get RAM that is compatible with this computer. I figured if I pasted the resutls of inxi it would tell knowledgable observer what kind to get. So will it suffice to just go to amazon or crucial and enter laptop ddr RAM?
Noted. What about the RAM, if I wanted to go ahead and put some new ram in it? What do I need to look for?
I have an older Toshiba Satellite laptop with Linux Mint OS installed. It pretty old and it's starting to show as it's getting slower. It's got a bigger screen and it's even got the num pad on the right of the keyboard in addetion to the numbers at the top. I thought about getting a new one but this has been a good computer and it's built very sturdy, I worked at Best Buy for about 6 months and I didn't see many built this sturdy. So I thought I might just put a few new parts in it to start with, maybe start with a processor and RAM and then maybe later an SSD and a new battery. Anyway here's the specs after running inxi, can someone please tell me what I need to be looking for concerning hardware, I'd like to get what's compatible with this computer and Linux but I'd like to up the specs a little with both the CPU and the RAM. Thanks.

My daughter has a Samsun Android tablet that has ran out of space so I purchased an sd card. The card is mounting and I reformatted it from the Android device but the device is still claiming to be full when she tries to install new apps. I tried this site http://www.howtogeek.com/242937/how-to-set-up-a-new-sd-card-in-android-for-extra-storage/ but that app never popped up when I inserted the sd card into the Samsung's slot. Any ideas on how I can give her extra app storate space for her tablet? Thanks.
Yes, many band names, artits, album names and song names have spaces in them.
The sd card is formatted to FAT32 and it has an exact copy of my music foler. So it looks like this.
artist1/album1/musicFile1.flac
artist1/album1/musicFile.2flat
artist1/album2/musicFile1.flac
artist2/album1/musicFile1.flac
etc...
I don't think it's read only. My music library is syncing from my computer to the sd card fine except that I always get these two errors.
After running rsync with the -a --delete source dest
arguments on my music library to my sd card I am getting the following errors.
default_perms_for_dir: sys_acl_get_file(Tears For Fears/Donnie Darko, ACL_TYPE_DEFAULT): No such file or directory, falling back on umask
rsync: mkstemp "/media/garrett/MUSIC-SD/Tears For Fears/Donnie Darko/.Mad World.mp3.yr2Xyc" failed: No such file or directory (2)
rsync error: some files/attrs were not transferred (see previous errors) (code 23) at main.c(1183) [sender=3.1.0]
I don't really understand either one of these two erros. It's syncing from source to destination so how can it say 'No such file or directory'? If it's not there wouldn't it just copy it? And that's a very odd file '.Mad World.mp3.yr2xrc' that I can't even find when I look in the source directory myself. And I have no idea what 'ACL_TYPE_DEFAULT' is all about. Any ideas? Thanks.

Well, it's a bunch of independant instructors. Some do and some don't respond. I'm trying there too. Thanks.
Im using a digitaloceans account because I'm following along with a coure on Udemy.com and that was part of the course. So I'm not punching localhost into my browser I'm using IPADDRESS:5000. I agree with you about the virtual environment, I wish the course hadn't used that but maybe had a brief video on it towards the end just to show what it is and how it works. Do you see any possible glues in the error messages as to what might be going on?
Here's my script.
#!/usr/bin/env python3
from flask import Flask
app = Flask(__name__)
@app.route('/')
def homepage():
return "Hell World"
if __name__ == "__main__":
app.run()
When I try and run it outside of my venv I get this error.
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "./__init__.py", line 3, in <module>
from flask import Flask
ImportError: No module named 'flask'
But if I run source venv/source/activate
first I get this
Running on http://127.0.0.1:5000/ (Press CTRL+C to quit)
Not that it's actually on a remote serve I setup on DigitalOceans. When I put that in my URL with the real DHCP IP address /var/log/apache/error.log gives me back all of this.

Thanks Gribouillis, I'll check that out. snippsat, I actually like the LAMP stack and I wanted to use Python instead of PHP in my LAMP stack. I was open to trying Flask or Django but I've had such a terrible time setting them up. I might give it another try. By the way, your site looks gorgeous!
Yea that's what I'm going to do. I like python and I wanted to give it a try at web programming but the setup and management is too difficult. I'll just go back to php.
I have always heard a LAMP stack refered to as Linux, Apache, MySQL (or MariaDB) and PHP. Since Python also starts with a p the term LAMP would still work but that isn't what is usually meant, but is what I'm wanting to try. Just watched another 15 minute video on starting a django project and now I am even more discouraged about using python in my LAMP stack instead of PHP.
