3 - not expect people to answer your homework assignments for you when all you have done is copy the question, showing no work of your own

It was literally just the command string and the receiving end would initiate a ZModem download and then just hang as it had nothing to send - depended on the the system of course, he used it most on BBS's. This was probably about 15 years or so ago if my memory serves me well.

Nope, my friend was restricted to being able to imitate a ZModem download command string tone - that was it. What you might call interesting but totally pointless :)

FWIW I used to have a friend who could initiate a ZModem download by whistling the correct modem tones down a telephone line, it was always fun to watch...

I think you are referring to Kevin Mitnick, there is a myth that this guy could trigger a nuclear war by whistling into a payphone however that has never been proved. And yes he was convicted.

The spammer has been banned, his postings all deleted.

In fact, I have edited to be even less offensive now - and would restate what others have said: tone it down in future please.

This is not the forum to be asking for help, it's just for saying hello. You need to post in the appropriate support forum, but that could be pretty much any of the software development or possibly some of the web development ones.

Think about what it is you need help with, explore the forum categories - especially Software Development, and ask in the one that relates to the language you need help with.

My experience of people asking for account deletions, in general rather than this specific case, is that someone joins up - asks a question - does not an answer they like - then throws a hissy fit demanding everything about them is removed. Either that, or almost as common, asks a question regarding homework or a problem they are having with a work project, gets an answer, then does not want anyone at college/work to know where they got the help from.

We are investigating exactly what happened, and how it happened - it would be foolish to make any formal statement until we have the answers to those two questions...

Of course, once you start posting the URL it starts to get spammy - especially if the poster just so happens to be a contributor or maybe the owner of the thing, and the 'announcement' just appears here in the lounge without being a response to a legit question...

Tread carefully, that's my advice here :)

There is no option to delete an account because doing so, and removing postings associated with that deleted account, would create huge holes in the DaniWeb database - support threads would become meaningless. You can, however, unsubscribe to admin emails and posting notifications etc via the control panel, and then not log in anymore...

Nope, but I can tell you that you really should trust your wife a bit more, and be a lot less paranoid or the relationship is likely to take a nose-dive. Especially if your wife is using this site as she will be able to see you are asking these questions about her if she reads this forum...

Agree with ~s.o.s~ here, members have just as much right to spend their time with us in the lounges or playing posting games if that is what they like about the community. We already ensure that activity here does no reflect within the reputation score, there is no need to try and punish them by reducing their post count just because they like the social side of DaniWeb more than the 'serious' side.
