Well you could try asking in the promotion and marketing forum, but please do not include your site url or it will get deleted and you might find yourself getting warned for advertising/spamming seeing as I have already now mentioned it as a no no.

Editorial led IT articles are OK, but code hints and tips belong in the appropriate forum, or can even be written up as tutorials

We are working our way through the blogs and notifying anyone with entries which are not IT news, reviews or editorial that they will need to be moved or will be deleted.

Well what with the earthquake the other week (we are only about 30 miles from the epicentre) and the gales the other week and the storms now, our house has taken a battering.

Quake caused a window to fall out, would be in the living room of course.

Gales and storms have destroyed half of one of the longest fences we have here, which runs up along the drive and into the field at the back.

Oh, and despite being able to see a power station from the bottom of our field, we have the added insult of losing power every half an hour as well.

Nice...

The hall of fame is purely a figure of speech, referring to all those people who have collectively been featured as a member of the month.

This is not to say that at some point in the future a hall of fame area will not be created, but currently there are no such plans. Apart from the kudos of being chosen, all the members get to show is the award of a 'featured posters' badge or similar :)

As for how the members are selected, that's down to me. I keep my eyes open for members of the community who consistently help others, who make their mark here, who stand out from the crowd (and with fast approaching 300,000 members that is no mean feat!)

We do not delete postings unless they break the rules here. Deleting your postings would leave holes in threads, and leave many making non sense, this would be unfair on other members who might be able to get some help to their own problems from the answers contained within those threads.

Please PM me if you wish to talk about this any more.

Please ask for help in the appropriate forum, and do not ask for responses by email as this goes against all we stand for here at DaniWeb where we act as a community to help each other. Another member with the same problem can use the help you get to help themselves. Indeed, someone who is not yet a member might find the thread in six months time and find it useful. If the answer was given by email only you would benefit...

The profanity filtering applies globally to DaniWeb, as part of the standard of professionalism we expect from members no matter where they happen to be on the system.

It would be a nonsense to say that you cannot call another member a <insert profanity here> in the forums but it is OK in chat, that you cannot litter your reputation feedback with profanity but it is OK in your blog comments, and so on.

No matter what your personal view on censorship, swearing and the rest of it - once the decision has been taken to make DaniWeb a profanity free zone then that has to be implemented across the board or not at all...

I can think of no reason why you would get any spam as a result of visiting DaniWeb. If that happened we would not be the thriving community that we are today...

We have changed user names a number of times before when a user has requested it. Indeed, Jbennet has not always gone by that name for example...

I don't think even Dani would or could do that because it would cause a lot of problems with all the threads the poster might have made using the original name. Easier to just sign up with a different name and not use the original one.

This message has not been flagged as bad, the 'flag bad post' link is there on all messages to enable members to report spam, offensive posts etc with a click of the link.

The Blog is not the right place to be asking questions, you will be lucky to get your question answered in a timely fashion and fairly likely to get your posting deleted. You should browse the forums and find the one that is best suited to the subject of your question and ask it there - that way you are exposed to the most people with the most relevant knowledge.
