Happy birthday! Glad that the community is helping you out in the way you wanted.

As Dani has mentioned before, this is down to server migration issues which she has been working frantically to fix.

Trouble is, if we had less ads then the site would not be free. If the site were not free, it would not be as useful to as many people as it is right now.

That said, members can already disable contextual advertising through their control panels. and if you donate to the site then you get the option of disabling graphical advertising as well.

You need to leave this active thread, go to the forum you want to post in by using the drop down navigation menu at the top of the page and when you arrive there the 'start new thread' button will be very clearly visible. Hope that helps.

Please do not cut and paste material in full from DaniWeb to use in your blog - instead use a link to the original here.

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

As long as you are not thinking of using it to post details of "services that I could offer web masters on DaniWeb" as we have quite strict rules regarding advertising and spam here.

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

I suspect such a forum would be a spam magnet. If DaniWeb users have questions related to the creation and use of images, text and video etc for web use then there are already plenty of forum options available.

We do not delete accounts, for a variety of reasons, however we do change usernames if there is a valid reason for doing so.

Both my arms are now 100% sleeved, and work is currently underway on finishing off the back. Already have a large self-designed centrepiece (celtic cross with tree of life capstone and inscription around it, green woman face at centre of cross, two single red roses entwining the upright to tie in with the roses on my arm) and am now getting a selection of Brian Froud goblins, elves and fairies to ink all the remaining skin. Froud is the chap who designed all the goblins etc in Labyrinth and Dark Crystal.

Chest is part finished, a take on the Dragon/Tiger fighting yin-yang with the tiger on one breast and the dragon on the other, both custom pieces of artwork. Also have part of the Wiccan Rede writ large under my neck across the top of the chest.

20 years since I first got inked and still some space left, although with a full afternoon inking every month booked in until 2010 I suspect I might run out at some point before I get too old to continue. I quite like being the only grandad in the tattoo studio though :)

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Forget the ho(e) debate, I am more interested in the suit thing. Quite funny really, considering I currently do not even own such a thing let alone wear one. I am more a jeans, t-shirt and tattoos man myself. :)

I don't like the hall of shame idea to be honest. I cannot see any positives coming out of it, and anyway it would mainly be full of entries such as: spammer, spammer, spammer, spammer, spammer, spammer :)

Rashakil Fol was not banned for flagging a blog post by me, or indeed for anything to do with me.

He was banned because he posted an offensive comment attacking another DaniWeb member in a way which broke the rules. As Rash had already received numerous warnings in the past about such things, and already had an active 5 point infraction on the system, the new infraction took him to the 10 point ban threshold.

Simple as that.

It was not a decision taken lightly, and was discussed at length by the moderation team. However, all members have to abide by the rules and they apply equally even if you happen to be a long-time member and former mod as is the case with Rashakil Fol.

The Dude was banned for posting spam which again took him over the 10 point limit.

OK, having discussed your case and it being years back now - we are prepared to give you another chance. Please read the rules before you start posting as this is not a 'free pass' to break them! :)

Welcome back, xgmx

emule is a file sharing doodad, here at DaniWeb we do not encourage members to use such things to steal copyrighted material

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

I did not even know that jbennet had recommended DaniWeb to cohen until the answer appeared during the interview. Just for the record.

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

A big part of the 'secret formula' comes down to the answers that I get in response to my questions for the member of the month interview. If someone, no matter how deserving, just replies with a bunch of yes/no responses then they will not get featured. If someone replies with a really set of answers but then tells me they do not want them to be published (this happened recently) they will not get featured. If someone does not reply in time for the forthcoming newsletter, they will not get featured in that newsletter.

The member of the month section is meant to be something that reveals a little more about someone who is an interesting member of the DaniWeb community at the end of the day. Don't read too much into it or you will go insane! :)

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Newsletter goes out to all members (unless they have opted out) on the first Tuesday of each month.

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

As there were no replies to the post in question, and it included confidential company data (login/password and code) I have deleted it.

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

IMAO, giving bad rep then giving good rep to nullify it is asinine. If you think they deserve bad rep, give it. If you're concerned about their rep points going in the toilet, don't give it.

You have, my friend, hit this particular nail firmly on the head.

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Yeah, it wouldn't work within the context of the newsletter - which is where we started this thread. One member interview a month is OK, a hundred would be overkill :)

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Trouble is not everyone wants to be featured, has time to answer my questions, is suitable material for a MotM nomination. So that 'pass the title on' approach just would not really fly to be honest.

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

ArkM, Cohen, The Dude and Iamthwee have all now been invited to participate in forthcoming Member of the Month interviews.

Keep the nominations coming...

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Is there someone on DaniWeb who you think should be featured as the Member of the Month in a forthcoming DaniWeb Digest newsletter and added to our virtual hall of fame?

I am looking for worthy candidates for forthcoming newsletters, so why not put forward someone who deserves it? Just add a comment to this thread (or PM me if you prefer) with the name of the member and the reason why you think they should become a Member of the Month.

You can see all previous recipients here and read their member interviews while you are at it.

Welcome Steve, from the heavily tattooed DaniWeb administrator. I have two full sleeves, a full back piece, and am currently working on my chest which is about a third done so far. Good to have a fellow ink fan on-board.

Not done arefu but have done the super duper mart.

To be honest, am spending more time playing Saints Row 2 despite completing the game on the easiest two levels already - just love that game.

Odd, I really liked Oblivion but am not so keen on Fallout 3 even allowing for the underlying engine stuff being the same.

I bought it (Xbox 360 version) at Woolworths the day before they all closed, managed to get it for £5 - new and sealed. Now that has to be the bargain of the decade! Only just started playing it though, so have not got very far as of yet. Have left Megaton and am heading for Galaxy Radio.

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

You don't need to change your username, and most people are happy with what they have. Sometimes there is a genuine reason and sometimes 'the management' will oblige when asked nicely:)

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

There is the ability to submit and share blog posts to sites such as Digg and Slashdot at the bottom of each posting. Just hover over the 'Share' button.

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

I think we need to look at two distinct things here:

What do members want to blog about themselves (as in what would make you start a blog here at DaniWeb instead of at Blogger for example)

and

What do members want to read other people blogging about (as in what stories do you want to read here from the existing team)

I certainly get the impression that most of my readers are coming in from outside of DaniWeb, which is not altogether a bad thing as it does bring the community exposure/advertising it would not otherwise achieve and hopefully helps inject new blood into the membership. That said, it would be great if more DaniWeb members were reading my output - so I am all ears and wearing my flame-proof jacket. :)

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

There does not seem to be much support, or for that matter disagreement, with your suggestion if the response here is anything to go by!

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Much better, as Ezzaral says, to invite those friends that you think would be genuinely interested in our community on a personal one-to-one basis, rather than simply spam everyone in your Gmail contact book with a come and join us message which would only detract from the brand value of DaniWeb.

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Please do no ask for support here, this is just for introducing yourself.

Find the right forum, and then try providing a little more detail rather than just copying an assignment question and expecting someone else to do the work for you.

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Changed

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

PM me with what you want edited, and maybe that can be accomodated. I see no reason to delete it though, it breaks no rules and is in the right forum.

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

I would take the 'treat it as a new printer' option and reinstall the drivers etc. Extreme, I know, but often works in such situations...

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Most ppl who spam (In pm or on the bases) dont come back after the 1st visit anyway

So there's no need for an instant ban then... :)
