It is a difficult one, and something that Dani is best placed to comment upon to be honest.

She is still having PC trouble at the moment, so give her a bit of time and she will be along to join the debate.

Personally, it is something that, for once, I don't have an answer to :)

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Tried Adblock, no difference. Done experimenting. Living with it for the moment(s).

I guess the real deal-breaker question here is:

Does the benefit of the DaniWeb content and community outweigh the problems you have with page-load times?

We used to keep a couple of heavy horses (shires) in the field behind our house, along with a rescue sanctuary ex-miner donkey which they had adopted, but the bills became just too great in the end and we had to sell them.

I still get elbowed in the ribs when I buy a new gadget, along with remarks along the lines of 'that would have bought three weeks worth of food for the horses' and 'we could have kept them another six months if you did not buy that'.

Grrr.

She is right of course. Which makes it a double-grrr.

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Thats very cool :) Congrats! :)

Thanks. Three weeks on and the glass trophies are still on my desk, and I still polish them every day to get my grubby fingerprints off. I guess the novelty will wear off soon and they will join earlier awards locked away in a cabinet for safe keeping...

hi, thank you for the response. I have done MCSE CCNA , now working for DELL , so looking at future , iam assuming that i can use the course for future growth in organisation.; Honestly i don't know. I love the sound of course and its contents.

I request you to give me suggestion what can i do you.

To be honest it is not a decision that anyone can make but yourself.

If you are thinking of doing the course purely in order to enhance your career/earning prospects then you need to do some research yourself and calculate if the time/expense required to complete the course will likely provide a good enough return on that investment.

If you are thinking of doing simply to learn, and you have already indicated you love the sound of the course and its contents, without worrying about the career forwarding implications then the decision becomes much easier.

Personally, I take every chance I can to improve my education but admit that I am lucky in that my job allows me to learn while I am working, indeed it is a core function of being a tech journalist.

Good luck, whatever you decide.

All sorts indeed, and your offer of help is appreciated.

I will consult the schedules and see what is coming up around November/December...

HI Vsang, welcome to DaniWeb. Crikey, that is quite some question you have there and way beyond the scope of the introductions forum to be honest. This is just where you say hello and we all wave back smiling.

Try asking over in the IT Careers and Business forum.

Welcome to DaniWeb Viva, for what it is worth your English is better than some I have seen from native English speakers!

OK, so now the first DaniWeb blogging competition is over and the mods have been reading postings and putting together a list of blogs to nominate for your votes. We shouldhave that list ready by Monday, and you'll have until the end of the month to cast your votes for the Best Blogger.

What I would say, by way of advice, is to continue blogging. Even though the competition is over, people will be looking at your blogs when it comes to vote time and if you are still posting interesting stuff regularly it might just sway them in your direction. Also, this is only the first competition, there will hopefully be more to come and people with a popular and well maintained blog will have themselves a head start...

In my experience, family members and friends make for the most demanding and difficult (not to mention often the most ungrateful) of clients

But like you, I too cannot resist helping them when they need it.

Welcome to DaniWeb, we need generous folk like yourself here!

Problem 1

Find the appropriate forums to post your questions in

Convince the membership there why they should do your homework for you

Problem 3

Convince your teacher that you provided the answers

But welcome to DaniWeb all the same matey

Hello Ignacio from the world of DaniWeb, and me.

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

I hate everything,
I hate everyone,

Perhaps we need to start a misanthropic computing topic, kind of like the BOFH?

But anyway, welcome to DaniWeb. The community that loves you even if you hate us ;)

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

And good job posting in the correct forum (with the question itself)

Indeed.

Way to go, killing two birds with one stone: introduction and pointer to correctly posted question. Methinks scicosmist is going to fit in just fine here...

Welcome to DaniWeb Dennis. I don't know what being on industrial attachment means, but it sounds painful (only kidding!)

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

I don't know what that means!!? This is my very first day posting

It means, er, welcome to DaniWeb as a new member of the community. We are a friendly bunch here :cheesy:

online telephone directory to get the number for the pizza delivery guy, what more do you need? ;)

10 years ago (or possibly more) in the UK even finding an online telephone directory was problematical ;)

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Ironically, about 10 years ago I did an experiment which turned into a feature for a magazine whereby I locked myself into a room with just a computer, modem and telephone line and had to survive for a week with only online contact.

With online supermarkets not being a reality, and ecommerce just starting out, it proved to be all but impossible.

How times change huh?

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Now you have lost me, must be getting too old

Carwash?

Fish shoes?

I know that it all seems an age away, December and all, but if we are going to do this thing it takes time to organise properly - and there isn't that much between then and now. Of course, there is the small matter of if it is worth doing given the very small positive response so far from UK members...

Hi MO, welcome to DaniWeb.

Can someone suggest the most approriate forum for talking about QT Pro?

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

The value of any Certified Ethical Hacking course can only really be determined by how you intend to use it, to be honest. What do you hope to achieve having completed it?

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Welcome to DaniWeb which is, indeed, the place to come to for computer help.

However, this is the wrong forum to ask for it, being a place to introduce yourself to the community rather than request specific help. You will get a much better response in the appropriate forum, which would appear to be Troubleshooting Dead Machines

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Hello and welcome to DaniWeb. Here's hoping you find all the help you need...

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

FWIW I don't hink that there is any great ad overload at DaniWeb, certainly no worse than any other such free system and much better than most - including many paid for membership ones. Sure, I no longer have dial-up connectivity but then again neither (I suspect) do the vast majority of users these days.

If I were stuck on a slow connection then I'd take the client side ad-blocking in the browser solution to the problem.

Dani is doing a good job design-wise, IMHO, in keeping the adverts relatively unobtrusive. You know they are there, they have the right visual impact, but do not interfere overly with the site content.

So, for now at least, I'm with Dani on this one :cheesy:

Slightly different to being interviewed by a media concern, rather they paid me to write something for them on a commercial basis. No different really to me painting a picture and selling it to someone on an exclusive basis and then selling prints of it to everyone else who wanted one as well.

Not everything I write is covered by such tight re-publishing controls, but increasingly it does seem to be a trend.

Didn't need a ghost-o-meter at my vacation cottage, a 600 year old building in a forest in North Wales and next door to the 'most haunted castle in Wales' apparently.

My wife insists she encountered a ghost during the stay, although I suspect it could have been me sneaking around trying to get my BlackBerry to work in the dark of night when I wasn't meant to have taken it with me in the first place...

It's not over until midnight on the 31st, and the mods are currently catching up with reading all the July blog postings and throwing our nominations into the ring.

We will have the finalists sorted, and ready for everyone to cast their votes for, by the end of the first week of August.

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

I suspect that London will be the easiest and most convenient for the majority of folk.

As for date, I am still thinking of something in early December so as to be an early Xmas party type affair (without leaving it too late and getting caught up in the Xmas party crush.)

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

For the first time ever, I gave in to the pressure from my better half and agreed not to take my computer on vacation with me this year. A decision that proved hard to make as, also for the first time since starting my own business 15 years ago, we went away for 14 rather than 7 days.

Anyway, I cheated and smuggled my BlackBerry in the camera bag (one of those over the shoulder slingshot-backpack style Lowepro ones) which would at least ensure email contact and the odd bit of web browsing while hiding from the family.

Or at least that was the plan.

Unfortunately, I have discovered that the inhabitants of North Wales, or at least the bit of the Snowdonia National Park where we were staying (a 600 year old cottage, complete with bats and a ghost, in the middle of a forest half way up a mountain) don't have the luxury of mobile phone signals.

I have managed to get by while on myriad press trips to weird and wonderful locations all over the globe, even finding an Internet Cafe in a remote jungle village in Kenya much to my surprise a few years back, but North Wales got the best of me.

I was totally cut off for all but a few hours of my holiday, got the best signal from the summit of Mount Snowdon at 1000 metres above sea level but having climbed up there was too knackered …

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Amen to all of that!

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Unfortunately not, due to contractual obligations to the publications the work was originally published in.

However, the feature 'Know Your Enemy' which won the Best Security Feature was published in PC Plus issue 226 and the whole magazine can be freely downloaded as a PDF from the PC Plus Archive.

I won the overall IT Security Journalist of the Year award for my portfolio of work in PC Pro magazine, and you can find my reviews, features and 'Real World Computing' columns at the website. You do need to register to access all the stuff on the site, but it is free to do so...
