Welcome to DaniWeb friend, but this isn't the place to be asking questions as it is just an introductions forum.

You need to be asking in the Viruses, Spyware and other Nasties forum.

Good luck.

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Howdee doodee drogue, welcome to DaniWeb.

You need to be looking in the Web Development forums for that kind of information.

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Hi Andrew, 16 seems like a good an age as any to start making your first million! Welcome to DaniWeb, let's hope we can help you make your IT dreams a reality.

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

DaniWeb members, that is.

Will the 100,000th member register today? :cheesy:

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Hi thangaraj, and welcome to the friendly discussion forum that is the DaniWeb community.

Here's looking forward to hearing more from you about AI, which I would guess would be best placed in the Computer Science and Software Design forum?

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Welcome to DaniWeb my friend, but this forum is not the place to ask those questions: at least not if you expect to get any answers. You have arrived in the introductions forum where we all say hello to new members.

Try asking your question in the Viruses, Spyware and other Nasties forum where I am sure you will be impressed not only by the level of help available but also the speed with which it is offered.

Good luck, hope you get sorted out quickly.

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Welcome to DaniWeb Patrick. Learning by example is, often, the best way.

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Where are you travelling from, how long are you likely to be there, when are you planning on going, what kind of budget do you have?

I don't have any answers by the way, but I suspect that these questions will need asking if anyone is to help you to any useful degree. :)

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Hello and welcome to DaniWeb, here's hoping you find the information and help you are after.

I would suggest you take a look at the Site Management category, in particular the Growing an Online Community forum where I think you will get the response you require.

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Sorry. I didn't know it was a member popularity contest (quality of content is why I think toulenwoek is hands down winner).... I'll stay away from it then in order not to cause any trouble.

But that's exactly what I am saying: your favourite is Toulenwoek because you rate the quality of his blog postings higher. Other people will disagree, that's the nature of a vote.

I'm not suggesting it is a popularity contest based upon which member people like most, but based upon which blog they like best.

So no need to apologise, and please don't stay away either! Obviously we are just differing on how we interprete the use of the word favoritism in this case.

:)

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

And, as I said before, of course the voting shows favoritism: what's the point of it otherwise? Doh!

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

First of all, welcome to DaniWeb where I am sure you will find the answer to this and any other IT problems.

However, probably not in the community introductions forum which is reserved for saying hello and letting everyone know who you are.

I'd suggest you take a look around the MS Windows sub forums and ask there.

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

That's a lot of questions, but I'll pick up on the one that I know the answer to: what type of people are on this forum?

And the answer, my friend, is 'all of the above.'

No, seriously, it is!

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

ePublishing is a fairly broad catch all, it seems to me, covering everything from blogging through to the sale of books in digital format (PDF for example.)

What did you have in mind, beyond the 'make some money out of this' premise?

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Welcome back Dani, here's hoping you've had your share of hardware hell for many years to come.

I always dread it when I change machines every 3 years or so, for exactly the reasons you have been experiencing.

I wouldn't sell my body for tattoo space, that is far too valuable a commodity. It is costing me a fortune filling the available space with tattoos, truth be told.

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

I like to ride bicycle, read books, rollerblade, and plot world domination. That's all I have to say about that, unless any of you fine individuals reading this have any questions for me.

Just the one: how do you ride a bicycle while reading a book?

I suspect the answer is 'very carefully' or something. :)

Hi Asma, what part of London are you from, says an honorary Yorkshireman who was born and bred around the cheapest square on the Monopoly board: Old Kent Road. You can take the lad out of Sarf Lunnon, but you can't take Sarf Lunnon out of the lad :cheesy:

Hi Gordon, don't get me started on old computing kit. I collect it, but mainly from the video gaming perspective. That said, I do have a range of Speccies up in the attic, about 20 in full working order and most fully boxed, plus at least 50 for spares. My wife thinks I am a very sad bloke, although the UK Museum of Computing prefer to think of me in terms of a useful chap to borrow display items from :)

Anyway, welcome to DaniWeb!

PS. Dani, I would hate to have been born in 1982 as I would have missed enjoying being a teenager during the birth of punk rock in the UK. Some of my fondest memories include seeing bands such as The Damned, The Clash, The Stranglers and The Sex Pistols live in their prime. Of course, not being born in 1982 does have its downsides, mainly to do with being old...

Hi micmwaura, a very warm welcome to DaniWeb. What kind of stuff are you coding in Nairobi?

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Hi Avinash, welcome to the community - I am sure you will find us as friendly as we are informative.

Hi David, welcome to DaniWeb. Battery fixer huh? Now that's a job description you don't read every day!

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Edison, welcome to DaniWeb.

I'm afraid you are asking in the wrong place. This is for saying hello, telling us a bit about you, introducing yourself to the community. It's not the right forum for requesting help.

You need to be looking in the Software Development forums my friend.

Good luck with solving your problem, if anyone can help you then DaniWeb can, man. :cheesy:

Hi David, welcome to DaniWeb.

Hmmm, DaniWeb as a dating service? Not something I had considered before...

Been there, completed the study, not expecting a t-shirt.

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Not a lot of point me selling my body on eBay, I doubt anyone would even bid. Mind you, I suppose I could use the 'breaking for spares' ploy...

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Welcome to DaniWeb my friend.

You probably need to head over to the hardware forums wikth that question if you want an answer. All you will get here is us saying hello to you, as this is the introductions forum...

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Hi guy, welcome to Daniweb. This isn't the right forum for requesting help, it is a place to say 'hello' and get waved at back.

In order to point you at a more appropriate forum for the question you need to tell us what platform and what database app you are using.

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Hi Tim, welcome to the community. You know what, it won't take you two years to help people. Truth be told, just by being part of the community and pledging to participate you are helping us all already! Nice one...

Hi Mike, and a warm welcome to DaniWeb.

Hi Baz, here's hoping you enjoy yourself and get rich! Welcome to DaniWeb mate, we can promise the former and hopefully help answer the questions to aid the latter as well.

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Sounds fascinating. Have you thought about starting a blog here at DaniWeb to share your thoughts on the matter?

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Welcome both, and good luck with your search.

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Er, isn't favoritism the whole point of a vote?

Mind you, with the voting at 50/50 currently I can't imagine how things could be fairer or closer right now...

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Hi Jaggy, a warm welcome indeed to your new home at DaniWeb. May you enjoy it as much as we enjoy you!

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Slow going with the votes here it is killing me.

That's why the voting runs until the end of the month, so that everyone who wants to vote can do so. I suspect that the votes will build up slowly over the period.

It is a very close run thing at the moment though, isn't it? How are your fingernails holding up? :)

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Agreed 101%. Well said old chap...

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Movielad: That's a real shame, I think that whatever external stresses you have got the better of you here. The wolfpack comment was, it seems to me, meant in jest. If I had been around I would have honored your request, but I would have wanted to PM you first to make sure you really wanted to withdraw as you seemed so excited at first. It's a also a real shame that you took the action that you did WRT your blog, which was uncalled for I think. But such is life, and I trust everyone can move on.

Dani: I did mention that I'd be away for a couple of days on business, but was hoping to have at least some connectivity. Unfortunately, my notebook packed up on me while away (battery died a total death) and was unable to get near an Internet Cafe or alternative due to workload. So apologies for my silence, these things always strike at the worse time huh?

Everyone else: I trust that this whole matter hasn't spoiled an otherwise excellent blooging contest, a contest which was designed as a fun thing to encourage more people to blog, and enjoy their blogging. I sincerely hope that this will be the case in spite of the movielad hiccup.

WolfPack commented: Diplomatically Handled. +3

Wow, what a great response to the blogging competition. Lots of new blogs, and even more interesting postings. From everyone at DaniWeb a sincere thank you to all that took part, and we hope you will continue to intrigue, humor, annoy and inform us with your blogs even though the first competition has now come to an end.

After a lot of consideration, and lots of reading, the moderators have agreed that the following three blogs should be put to your vote to decide which wins the first DaniWeb Best Blogger competition.

In no particular order the nominations are:

Voting will remain open for 25 days, and at the end of the month the winner will be officially announced and the $250 Amazon gift voucher awarded.

Good luck everyone!

Tea. Earl Grey. Hot.

If you like tea (and I am partial to a drop of Earl Grey myself, black with a little lemon) and I like, and I have voted for tea and there is only 1 vote showing, why haven't you voted for tea?

Don't let the tea drinkers down man!

Sorry, got a bit carried away there. Too much coffee probably :)

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

where can i get replies to my messages and where exacly do i post them?

I suggest that you take a look at the DaniWeb How To which Dani has just finished turning into a really useful and easy to understand guide to using DaniWeb. I would also advise that you read the DaniWeb Rules as these will also help you to get the best out of the service we offer.

Spend a few minutes with both the above and I suspect all will become clear...

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Be patient :)

Someone will most likely be along soon with a spot on suggestion of where to ask the question. That's the beauty of DaniWeb, with nearly 100,000 members (yep, we are nearly there!) there is always someone in the community who is going to be able to help out. Of course, being a global community everyone is on different time, and what with work and leisure getting in the way (especially over a weekend) an immediate response is not always possible. However, I'm willing to bet it won't take long...

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Hi dmksh, I think you have posted this in the wrong forum mate, this is for DaniWeb related stuff only. Sounds like you need to find the most appropriate sub-forum in the Linux and Unix section of Tech Talk.

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Difficult to choose just the one, as it depends on how I want to relax. Cool off and then fall down would be bourbon, cool off and get rather happy would be beer (either a German weis beer or my favourite pint of classic English Ale, Courage Directors). However, to cool off and calm down without any of the booze related after effects it has to be tea every time, in my case that is green tea, preferably with lotus blossom flowers or jasmine blended in. Ah, sheer bliss...

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Hi and welcome to DaniWeb, I hope you find what you are looking for here. Unfortunately I cannot help you with your question, and the community introductions forum is not the right place to be asking. This is where we all say hello and get to know each other.

With a bit of luck someone who knows exactly the right forum to ask in will be along shortly with the link for you to click and find happiness the DaniWeb way :cheesy:

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

also if anyone could tell me where people can vote on the blogs.

A voting post will appear here in the lounge by Monday morning, with the three blogs that have been nominated by the mods as the best of the bunch. Voting will then continue until the end of the month when the winner will be announced.

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

not a big deal as I said.

Maybe not, but we value your bringing such things to our attention as without such feedback it can be difficult to gauge the depth of such problems.

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Does anyone else have any thoughts on this?
