rhel and debian are pretty common. With that said, learning from one distrobution usually goes to pretty much any other with little to no modification depending how specific you get but most generic things work on them all.

lol lets assume you meant 64 bit and as long as your processor supports it yeah 64 bit is generally better though there are a few (not really common) things a 32 bit version may do better

use cgi:irc or a vpn if you want to hide your ip ultimately theres not much you can do about server admins reading chats in channel and if one or both of you are not on ssl pm's as well if you're that worried about it run your own network …

Few things to try and check. Do you still have a wlan0/ath0 or whatever device? What happens if you connect using terminal (iwconfig/ifconfig/dhclient). If no wlan/ath device what chipset is your wireless card?

MAC filtering is effectively useless as spoofing it is relatively easy. Perhaps setup rules so everything except traffic over voip is filtered no matter where it comes from?

ip route <network you're informing the router about> <subnet> <next hop to get there> first one is pretty much say this is my default gateway the second one says to get to the 192.168.1.16 network please go through 10.1.1.2 It is used for static ip routes.
